Fiber Optic Cables set to transform the way we communicate in Pattaya

    9th February 2011

Underground fiber optic cables are being installed here in Pattaya and are set to transform the way we communicate with the rest of the world.

On Wednesday at Pattaya City Hall, Khun Ronagit, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya, chaired a meeting attended by officials from the CAT Communications Company who are rolling out a 600 Million Baht “fiber to the home” program which is expected to come on-line from November this year.

The new cables will provide ultra high-speed internet for homes and businesses up to 150mb.

Other high speed communication devices will also be part of the program which is expected to cover the entire area of Pattaya.

This will be the first area of Thailand where then program will be launched and we expect further details as the installation progresses, including pricing for domestic and commercial customers.

"Slavery is the daughter of darkness; an ignorant people is the blind instrument of its own destruction; ambition and intrigue take advantage of the credulity and inexperience of men who have no political, economic or civil knowledge. They mistake pure illusion for reality, license for freedom, treason for patriotism, vengeance for justice."-Simón Bolívar

Hope they manage to install them quicker than the job of re-routing the overhead cables on Beach road, been going on for about 3 years now I think and still not nearly complete, doubt if it ever will be.

It'll probably only go as fast as the censors or their computers can process the flow, and sadly that statement is not intended as a joke.

"set to change the way we communicate with the rest of the World"

Excuse me while I vomit, more of that dribble that does not belong in a news story. Pattaya One seems to be the worst, nothing bad is published and all comments are pre-censored, a really worthless rag.

That's great. Pattaya residents will be able to reach the bottle-neck super-fast to let the world know that they're gasping for water.

Does humour belong in Thai telecommuications OR " TOT = TiT"

We baught our home 14km south of central Pattaya almost 3 years ago
Internet connection was going to be done 1 years time then
8 months ago it was going to be 3 months
1 month ago it was going to be 2 months

Solly, still waiting for part from Bangkok mis-ter!
The offer to drive to BKK and bring the "part" met with - solly mis-ter no can do

Ask the Ban Ampur TOT manager who you can take your complaint to higher up in ToT and ... well, no surprise, still waiting

In the end baught a DTAC plugin and all is fine!

The sheer volume of sick buffalo emails to farangs has caused this demand.

It's a corrupt chain of command that has made this happen, all the way from the bar itself to the TOT bloke overseeing the proposal.

The cables won't last 2 hours in the ground before they are dug up and stolen.
