Smile A visit to SILVERLAKE WINERY

    A visit to SILVERLAKE WINERY

Chonburi province's first vineyard and winery is just a few hundred feet from Buddha Mountain. The winery, built by a famous movie actress Surachai Tangjaitrong, is surrounded by a large lake which turns silvery in color at dusk, thus, the name Silverlake.

It makes sense to combine a visit to Buddha Mountain (Khao Chee Chan Buddha Image) since they are just a few hundred feet down the same access road. From Pattaya South Road (aka Pattaya Tai Road) go south on Sukhumvit Road for 14 km/15 min. (8.6 mi.) past a sign pointing to Wat Yanasangwararam (Yan). About 700 yards beyond the Wat Yana sign, turn left at the next signal light. Go about 5 km (3 mi) and you will see Buddha Mountain on the right, the winery is just a few hundred further down the road.

This is the intersection you are looking for. This is the second Wat Yana… turnoff and look for the signal light, seen in background, turn left and go about 3 ˝ miles, past Buddha Mountain .

Silverlake is a very new facility with plans for a modern winery next to the lake with its own tasting room. For now, there is a nice restaurant (Silverlake Wine and Grill), with horse and carriage tours of the vineyard and surrounding areas, a large event area with a natural amphitheatre for festivals and concerts.

Inside the restaurant includes what will be a tasting room. I don’t believe it’s finished yet.

There is a full menu restaurant in operation now and it seems very popular, especially on the weekends.

This is a sitting area just outside the restaurant. Pizza is sold in a separate small building next to this sitting area. You can order from the restaurant menu or get a pizza.

Food prices are moderate/high for Thailand, with most items in the $8 - $10 range.

The wine list prices start at about $45 per bottle.

Directly across the street from the restaurant is the large event area with a natural amphitheatre.

You can see the vineyards in the distance and the gardens are open to the public. There is no charge for the garden/restaurant areas.

Bus tours taking people to Buddha Maintain stop here to let tourists let off a little steam.

There are a number of covered tables where you can enjoy the vendor food and drink and enjoy the views overlooking the lake/gardens.

Here you can see Buddha Mountain in the distance.

This is a very family friendly area.

There are a number of options to tour the vineyards. Walking through the vineyard costs 10 baht ($0.35), Trolley Cars 70 BAHT ($2.40), ATV 250 – 450 baht ($8.25 – 15.50)

Combining Buddha Mountain with the Silverlake Winery makes for a nice day trip. There is no charge for Buddha Mountain and the wine area can be free or enjoy a nice meal and a glass of wine.

Driven by many times don't remember seeing anywhere to make wine.
It's a vineyard, maybe and a tourist trap.

With my residence not too far down the road on the other side of 331 from the Silver Lake Vineyards, we pass the Khao Chee Chen, Wat Yang, the vineyards and restaurant frequently. It is always a plesant drive through that area. Although the wine itself is not that good, the grape juice at the vineyards is superb. The restaurant itself accross the street from the vineyards is nice in the evening. The few times we have actually stopped in and ate there was a piano player or a guitar player providing easy listening music. The restaurant has an Med type environment and the food, both Western and Thai, is rather tasty even if slightly pricy. There is some new construction going on just to the left of the restaurant. Not sure what that is all about. The surrounding lands of the vineyards are being cleared for the addition of additional vines. Behind the vineyards and next to the Khao Chee Chen there is, and I am thinking that it is still there, a small Karen/long neck village that tourists can pay a fee to go into. Never been through so not sure of the goodness of the village. And further down the road toward Pattaya there is a turn off for the Chinese Temple Wat Yang...... That is worth while stopping at as well. Good photo opportunity.

Wow Khun Chitown, for all the years I've traveled that road, I've never noticed Mc's Restaurant. The building sort of looks like what was used as the office for carriage and ATV rides but I think that has even moved. I'd have to say the Mc's is no longer there in my opinion. When was the last time you were there?

16-06-2008, 08:28 PM was when I posted it in the thread, so probably a few days before. Wow, that was before I started using Mozilla - my spelling was atrocious!

Mc's Diner! Inside I found David from England and he whipped us up some burgers, fries and cokes for 350 baht. David has the diner, a campground, an ATV park, elephant treking, carriages pulled by ponies and a tour company. He located a stones throw from Khao Chee Jun and just before the Silver Lake Vineyard. Mc's Diner : 089-888-4340 and 089-990-0937.

My mate had his wedding opposite the lake, set up some Arabian style marquees, heaps of flowers and served imported wine and fine european food.

A lovely location and one of the nicest weddings I have attended.

Jeez, seriously I cant get my head around why one would pay for that shite.

Its diabolical when there are so many other healthy food options around.

    Near on makes me puke.

On the up side nice picks and good info. Cheers for that.

Having driven past this place a few times, (short cut from Banchang - Pattaya) and hearing about the quality and price of wines and food there, it looks nothing other than a money-laundering operation..
