Never come across the bloke in all the years I have been coming too and living in Pattaya and at the same time never heard a bad word nor a good word about him.

Seems to have done well for himself here and supported a lot of charities and I can't really comment on the kiddy fiddler allegations as thats what I expect they ONLY are at this point of time.

To his friends and family my condolences and may he RIP.

Porn Scot found dead in Thailand home

    Published on 26 Jan 2010
A former rock group manager and travel agent convicted of possessing child pornography has died at his home in Thailand.
Martin Frutin, originally from Giffnock and who owned one of Scotland’s largest independent travel agencies, died in the resort of Pattaya.
He had left the UK after being found guilty of possessing indecent images of young boys. He was fined £500 in 1996.
Reports from Thailand said Frutin, 69, died with his Scottish nephew and Thai ‘adopted son’ by his side.
Frutin was the son of a Glasgow cinema manager and in 1962 won the European Cha-cha, Jive and Twist Championships with his dance partner June Miller, from Pollok.
Then he went into the music business and managed Scottish groups, including Frankie Miller and the Delljacks, before branching into the travel industry.
After moving to Thailand in the 1990s Frutin was suspected of having contributed to local police funds but was never prosecuted. From that moment on he rose to become a prominent member of Pattaya society.
For the last year before he took ill, he had teamed up with a Danish businessman called Nils Colov and joined Mr Colov’s television channel Pattaya People, where he presented his own show giving ‘tourists tips’.
Frutin drove a red Rolls Royce and built a mansion that had four home cinemas and a swimming pool, which he could slide into from his second floor bedroom.

I met Fruit In a couple of times in Pattaya. He was one of these characters who had one topic of conversation .. himself..
He loved to tell anyone who would listen about his immense wealth. Not a good idea for most folk in Pattaya but then again Fruitin was very well protected. He was fluent in Thai and volunteered as an interpreter for the police where he was mates with a lot senior officers. He was right in with the Rotary Club crowd and he had connections up at the UK embassy in Bangkok.
He loved to play the role of the old queen and fun loving eccentric but in reality he was not really a man you fucked around with in Pattaya.

Controversial Iconic Scotsman Dies In Pattaya

Still no pics of his dead body whats happened to the Pattaya news?
Although in 1995-6 I don't think there was registration of sex offendors for child pornography.

Controversial Iconic Scotsman Dies In Pattaya

Pattaya, 26th of January 2010 [PDN]: Frutin, somewhat of a Pattaya icon having lived in the city for many years, where he owned condo’s, a palatial mansion and was heavily involved in community affairs with the likes of; the Rotary Club, Expats Club and often assisting the Pattaya Police as a translator. Frutin was fluent in several of the Thai dialects as well as up to 10 other languages.
Originally Frutin was a band manager, with the likes of Frankie Miller and the Delljacks under his wing. Allegedly he counted both Tam Paton (Bay City Rollers manager) and Brian Epstein (The Beatles manager) as friends.

Following a moderately successful career in the music industry Frutin began a travel agency in the city of Edinburgh. Realising he had the unique ability to sell holidays he stuck at it and made his millions, allegedly one of the pioneers of the last minute bargain holiday deals. Commuting regularly to Thailand throughout the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s Frutin grew an affinity with the “Land of Smiles” and in particular the city of Pattaya.

Eventually Frutin purchased 2 condo’s in Pattaya and commuted regularly between his native Scotland and his holiday homes in Thailand. Frutin eventually took early retirement from the travel agent lifestyle, selling the business and moving to Thailand with his fortune. Frutin built a palatial 4 storey mansion in Pattaya where he has entertained Bollywood movie stars and various local celebrities over the course of the last 20 years.

Unfortunately, controversy surrounds Frutin’s death, with a leading British newspaper reporting that Frutin was a registered child sex offender in Scotland. It is alleged that in 1995 whilst Frutin was on one of his regular visits to Thailand, Scottish police raided his Edinburgh home finding a disturbing collection of pictures, videos, a magazine and negatives of sexual acts involving minors. Frutin was convicted and fined of these offences however it is also believed that he was a member of a homosexual “magic circle” that was given special treatment by the Scottish authorities in the 1980’s.

Fleeing to Thailand after being released he was again allegedly caught up in child pornography and sexual indiscretions in Pattaya. However once again it was thought that he was given special treatment by the Pattaya police who he acted as an interpreter for on several occasions due to his unique penchant for languages.

Whatever the case, Frutin died recently in a Pattaya Hospital with his Thai family and some relatives that had flown in from Scotland by his side. Another Pattaya publication has reported an obituary stating: “A piece of Pattaya history has left us and all who knew Somsak Martin will greatly miss him.”

The Sun is just great for news headlines

Pervert travel agent dies in Thai bolthole

A MILLIONAIRE Scots child sex fiend who fled to Thailand after being snared by cops has died.

Twisted travel agent Martin Frutin, 69, left Scotland after being convicted of possessing vile child sex pics and videos.
The sick ex-rock manager then lived it up abroad - thanks to the fortune he made from holiday firm Frutin Travel, of Leith, Edinburgh.
The perv had previously worked in the music industry - and managed bands such as Frankie Miller and the Delljacks.
He was even pals with sleazy former Bay City Rollers boss Tam Paton, who died last year.
He met Paton - who himself was convicted of possessing child porn - in the 1980s.
The pair used to go on seedy trips together - and visited the Thai city of Pattaya, notorious for its sex trade and exploitation of kids.
They were rumoured to be part of a "magic circle" of homosexual criminals allegedly given lenient treatment by the Scots authorities in the 1980s.
But while Frutin was away in 1995 police raided his Edinburgh home and found a sick collection of pictures, videos, a magazine and negatives.
Frutin was convicted and fined - but he fled to Pattaya, where he was again caught in possession of more child porn.
Frutin, who "worked" for the local police as an interpreter - was not charged.
He led a lavish lifestyle, driving around in a red Rolls Royce and living in an extravagant mansion - with a young Thai boy he "adopted".
He even rented out his posh pad to Bollywood filmmakers - being given small roles as "payment".

Locals dubbed him Somsak - a common Thai name.
Last night a Scots pal said: "Martin was a flamboyant character and this is how he'd like to be remembered.
"His nephew - who'd been over from Scotland - Martin's adopted son and close friends were with him when he died in hospital."
Frutin's vile sexual habits also appeared to have been accepted by the Thai community where he lived.
Last night the Pattaya People newspaper's obituary said: "A piece of Pattaya history has left us and all who knew Somsak Martin will greatly miss him."

From the scotsman, they seem to be proud of Martin and will miss him.

    Martin S Frutin

    Published Date: 27 January 2010
    By BERYL BEATTIE
Travel agent, TV presenter, reporter and Bollywood star

Born: 31 December, 1942, in Giffnock, Glasgow.

Died: 24 January, 2010, in Thailand, aged 67.

MARTIN Frutin was always destined for some sort of stardom from the time he was born into the renowned Glasgow Frutin theatrical family, owners of the now long-gone Metropole theatre and various cinemas.

Blessed with film stars looks, he opted not to tread the boards but became a champion jive dancer with his partner, June Miller, with whom he subsequently enjoyed a seven-year engagement which never actually led to a marriage.

Appearances on early STV dance programmes followed and the pair had the honour of appearing at the Glasgow Alhambra Theatre before the Queen Mother, who was watching when Frutin took an unrehearsed tumble into the orchestra pit, emerging with only his dignity hurt. Frutin also recounted how Frank Sinatra presented the couple with a special award and during the years which followed he was to meet many stars of stage and screen on his travels.

    In the early 1960s he became a manager of pop groups, capitalising on his family name to get him and them business. As in all he did, he succeeded beautifully. He was proud to say he knew Brian Epstein, then manager of the Beatles;

In his business life, he began modestly in a small office owned by Scotia Travel, a well-known Glasgow travel agency. He realised he had a penchant for selling holidays and eventually found himself in Edinburgh, where he founded Frutin Travel, a Leith travel agency in which he pioneered the first last-minute bargain offers.

Frutin recalled proudly the day he advertised a £25 holiday special offer and crowds filled the street outside the shop. He would welcome prospective clients into his shop dressed in an assortment of humorous masks and false teeth to make them laugh and while away the interminable time queuing for his bargain-basement deals. That way he never lost a customer and his hard-working staff, including manager Jimmy Thomson and Ian Chambers, were his pride and joy.

However, it was during a business tour for the agency that he discovered an affinity with Thailand, claiming a déjà vu feeling of having been there in a past existence. So, retaining his Ravelston Dykes residence in Edinburgh, he bought two large condominiums in Pattaya and commuted when business allowed, eventually taking early retirement and selling the business, which retains the Frutin name, to live a happy life in Thailand. He called the country "the land of smiles" and eventually purchased land there on which he built a magnificent four-storey residence. It came complete with an Olympic-sized outdoor swimming pool and garages for his stable of ten cars, ranging from the latest Lexus to a red Rolls-Royce, which he had imported from Scotland.

Having intended to enjoy retirement, Frutin was approached by Niels Colov, head of the Pattaya People newspaper, radio and television group, to be a guest in a radio programme. However, the Frutin personality so dazzled expat listeners that he was asked to become a roving television reporter for the group and contribute a column to the paper, also assisting as photographer when invited with the food critic to cover events.

A prominent mason in the Pattaya brotherhood, Frutin was also a rotararian, a part-time translator for the Pattaya police (he spoke several Thai dialects as well as ten other languages fluently) and a member of the expats club, where his regular talks on Thai life and customs always guaranteed a full house. His home telephone number was listed as an emergency contact for any expat with a problem or who required advice

But when a Bollywood film company arrived in Pattaya looking for somewhere palatial in which to film, Colov recommended Frutin, who allowed the stars and film crew into his home and ended up getting a part himself.

His future plans included a trip to India and a large part in another Bollywood film but, sadly, he developed pancreatitis a few months ago, and although he received treatment in Scotland on one of his twice-yearly visits, he was diagnosed with cancer and subsequently hospitalised in Pattaya. His condition worsened and he died surrounded by those he called his adopted Thai family, Neat and Ton and Ton's son Leo, as well as a nephew, Joel, who had flown out to be with him.

Martin Frutin made people smile. It is an appropriate epitaph for a man who chose to live life to the full in the land of smiles. He is survived by his sister, Sharon, and various nephews and nieces.

Maybe, but fruitcake himself was no gangster- just a flamboyant poove with lotsa dosh, in a town and country where that buys not just immunity, but protection and patronage. Their 'henchmen' wear uniforms.

I recall him and a few other affluent queens holding court in Mata Hari a couple of times. Can't call them dislikable, or obnoxious- actually quite entertaining. But I was told this circle held a lot of sway in Pattaya, by a guy who holds no small sway himself I might add. Maybe urban myth, maybe not, but the way it was described to me, a major reason that Manhattans next door pretty much flopped is that they upset the high spending gay set by sacking a favoured queen who was manager there.

interesting, yes I noted that Manhattan did have a large crowd of gays. Is that restaurant still operating by the way ? I haven't been to that part of Pattaya for ages, maybe more than a year. Road construction was a mess.

Historically interesting. Police (homophobic) V Scottish lawyers and judiciary - both with an angle to push. But really no contest. Interesting too for the names including those still in Pattaya.
A good guide to the Edinburgh gay scene in the 80's - which I did not know of course!
