Even if the service is exceptional 10% is quite a lot. For bad service they get nothing, neither in Germany nor in Thailand.

Why worry about some bar girls reaction to anything ,except perhaps if she looks down at your crotch and starts laughing

No need to tip in this case. If the bill was 90 baht ok leave 100 but for a 110 tab leave 110. No reason to tip in Thailand, service sucks.

We had previously been surprised at the increase in prices throughout Pattaya and we had decided to tip accordingly...that is 10 bahts for a drink. After sitting in the Classroom Gogo for about 10 minutes my friend decided to leave. There was only one other Farang and the place was full of ladies ...none of whom had gone near my friend. The bill was 110 baht. So my friend left a 100 bhat note and two 10 bhat coins (that is a 10 bhat tip) As he stood up to leave the lady put his money into the container , started to rattle the coins in it loudly and kept yelling.."CHEAP, CHEAP!" so that everyone in the var started to stare.
My friend who is usually quite fortright was so taken aback that he couldn't speak and simply went outside. I thought this was a little rude. Can you imagine this happening in a bar in the real world?? I didnt know if I should have laughed or cried at this! What do you think??
    Tell them to F8CK OFF!

I am serious. You tip for good service or above average service.

You and your friend had a drink. That's it.

The prices in Pattaya are higher, understandably.

I only tip for honest politeness or above average service.

Tell them to f8ck off. Stupid lazy, cnuts.

And over time, Pattaya is bigger and busier - and harder - meaning less, friendly.

^exactly. I don't ever tip the bar in a gogo. I might tip the girl depending on what she does, but I will never tip the bar....ever. I especially like it when they hand me a metal tray full of 10 baht coins. They all go in my pocket. They don't like it? Fuck them. The drinks are already overpriced - the tip is included in the inflated cost of the beers.

Gunna go out on a limb here, but the whole tipping thing sucks…… to me good service equals return patronage. Has anybody working here (in Thailand) ever been expecting a tip for providing a service that a paying customer has asked for? Seems to me it’s a chance for many (who will even tip the toilet lady) to gain instant notoriety, as in who has the deepest pockets. Sure, there is nothing wrong with leaving a bit extra when paying your tab, but being expected too…….Fek. Bring in the pay as you go rule as in many other countries. Thanks again Uncle Sam. Tipping is a part of my number one pet peeve about this country - this attitude of self-entitlement that many of the Thais have, like they deserve something just because they are natives of a third world country. Makes me sick.

Don't go to America then matey, at last report it was a flat 15% tip on any service based industry but at $9 per hours wages for a barman you can understand why.

There system is an absolute fok up.

Agree 100% - most people don't receive or expect tips for doing their job, so why should service staff. If you're not happy with your salary, talk to your boss or get another job - that's what the rest of us have to do.

In tourist areas where prices are massively inflated - I don't tip.

    Period.

Unless exceptional service or genuine politeness or chit-chate and good conversation take place.

    Go-go bars, no.

I always tip the girls serving the drinks in my favourite drinking holes (rarely in a-go-gos).

100 Baht tip every now and then will get you an extra half nip in your many mixers for sure!

It depends on the sincerity and the reciprocation, like that post ^^ above.

A little extra nip in my drink helps - if they didn't just pore the shot on the top, so when I drink it, I think it's strong.

An old trick and I like my mixers mixed in front of me.

People ask me why I get drunk so fast..........after about 10 (I'm a fast drinker) and really my girls add another half nip in my drinks because of the tip I give them. Quite good value when you work it out.
