The better half and I were casually walking along the beach down in Jomtien on Sunday afternoon, and accidentally came across View Mare restaurant. I wasn’t too hungry but I got dragged in anyway.

The place is nicely set out, very spacious with a warm friendly atmosphere. The first thing I noticed was how many staff they had working. I bet they had at least 30 waitresses and then more behind the scenes.

It took us, well, it took my missus about 10 minutes to choose where she wanted to sit, but in the end she chose pretty well, with a great view looking out over the ocean.

Food selection was pretty good, although not too much in the way of western choices. Lots of seafood choices, which you would expect from a beach side restaurant I suppose.

Not that hungry, we settled on a little dish of what looked to me like some kind of seaweed, and some BBQ squid with a lime and chili dressing. Both dishes came pretty quickly, both were well presented, and both tasted really nice, even the seaweed.



We finished off with some coconut ice-cream, which came presented inside, yes you guessed it, a coconut.

All in all it was a pleasant little stop over and not too expensive either. The total bill, with a coffee, an orange smoothie and a bottle of water came to just under 700 THB.

They open from 11:00am and stay open all the way through until midnight.

I don't think it means "mummy". The restaurant is a beach-side restaurant so it has a view of the sea, so I think "mare" is the Italian word for sea.
