Shenanigans on the lake, a review, sort of.

Well, after several visits to the new Shenanigans (used to be Peacock Resort) on Puddle Mabprachan, it seems they have finally got it together.

A friend and I popped in for a quick drink, we had 5 Guinness each and they didn't fuck one of them up for a change.

I should explain that I have visited many times and something always goes wrong, but not tonight.

To bolster my point of this place being really good, apart from they are the only bar around the lake to sell Guinness, I got talked into ordering a Sunday lunch (at 6pm).

As a recovering vegetarian tree hugging freak I opted for the chicken full monty.

A while later I was offered a plate of lamb, no biggy, I accepted.

The bits and bobs that arrived were all good as was the meat.

Veg wise I had mashed spuds, roast spuds, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower cheese and a Yorkshire pud.

I think I was charged about 160 or possibly 200 baht (I was and am drunk) for the chicken dinner. I know the lamb was a bit more but they still charged me for what I ordered.

All in all a very nice evening out.

WTF don't other bars around here offer Guinness???
I would post pictures but life's too short.

Sounds good. But it's bad luck to stop on 5 drinks. I always round it off to 6.

But then I realise that 7 is a lucky number, so have one more round.

And then, 8 people pints is a gallon, so you may as well have one more, and after that you ain't able to count anymore.

In Thailand 8 and 9 are considered lucky numbers so best make it 9 pints to be sure of your good luck.

If you fancy venturing into town. Witherspoons has Guinness for 150 Baht a pint (from 2pm until 8pm I think?). Dead as door nails at the moment, so shouldn't be too much of a hardship.

There are plenty of places in town that sell the black stuff but only 1 on the darkside that I know of.

The best pint , IMO, is at O Garas (Tara Court) 199 baht.
The Sportsman do a good pint a well 199 baht.

Steer clear of Dicey Reilly's 370 baht a pint !!!!!!

The Venue has it in cans, or it might be Murphys. Siam Country Resort has cans of Murphys as well.

Shenanigans is nice - aircon bar, and good entertainment Fri and Sat. The Deli part will open soon as well selling bacon and all the usual bits and bobs - not surprising that the owner also owns one of the larger meat suppliers in Pattaya as well.

You know that the capital P on Philistine shows that you googled the word to get the spelling correct?

Shenanigans? Thought it had changed into an Indian place? Indian Roots or something like that. I live out there and have not noticed a new Shenanigans, where is it?

Nooo that was a difference place owned by a Chelsea supporter. Flannigans was it?

Anyway, Shenanigans is where the Peacock used to be - along the same stretch of road as Happy days, Ponderosa, the girly bars (used to be Mobis, then nifties, now Happy Days 2)... next stop is Shenanigans.

The Venue now owned by Sandy is slowly getting the menu together and he has really improved the place as a top entertainment drop in. Wednesday and Saturday night with Helmut's band is great value.

He is also planning to put in 2 golf simulators which allows you to play any major course on the planet (US$75,000.00 each)

I rate it as the best bar of it's kind on the Darkside.

Yup - its getting good indeed. Some interesting things happening around the lake with Shenanigans and the Venue. Two pretty serious big spending owners, all with solid experience of running bars. Other places now are feeling the pinch with the Venue having Aircon (despite the open doors!) and SG's as well. It is, to be fair, exactly what the areas needs as it will doubtless cull a lot of the non performing bars down, pushing the punters that prefer to sit outside in the dust to congregate at the better options. Nifty's Bar is good, with an inside and outside, and Nifty is a great bloke. Sammy from happy hour favourite Happy Days might be watering down his clientele with his new Happy Days 2 bar. Not been there yet. Very pink. Another new one, Apple Food and Drink on its way. The Darkside is apparently going to brick itself in and put aircon throughout.... maybe... perhaps...allegedly. Ponderosa should be good, but alas the new manager knows absolutely nothing about running a bar or restaurant and is dying a death. If it were not for their rooms, they would be in serious trouble.

Yes -some great options now around the lake, and hopefully this will see a lot of the dross disappear so that the people who know how to run bars and restaurants will make some good dime and be able to increase standards.

That was Mulligans owned by Ray.

Shenanigans now have an Indian couple cooking some real good curry's. I still prefer Indian Roots but it's nice to wash a ruby down with a Guinness

Mulligans - yes, that's the one. Ray is good value.

Jing lor? Sure they are not the pre-packed ones that they sell through Smithfields (same owner)? I've not seen any jinglies walking about Shenanigans.

I find Indian Roots to be bland and tasteless if I am honest. Tried it twice, and not a patch on Fishermans.

The landlord is my daughter's godmother who formerly owned The Lobster Pot on walking street.

I love Indian food but have been disappointed to find anything decent in Pattaya.

Shenanywankas defo have an Injin couple cooking now.

With Injin Loots I've learnt to ask for the food to be spicy and have been really impressed.

The Fish, well, just look at the way they cook the chicken at midday and leave it hanging in the heat covered in flies until someone orders it 6 hours later.

I'll be darkside for a week from the 14th of Oct. It will be nice to see the new, (revamped) places, and of course catch up with ze gossip. Always gossip. Strangely, I always feel better about having that pile down there when I leave, than before I came. I just hope there are still some village shanty type places for this slob to hang out in, when i'm done with the glam, but I'm sure there are.

Have you tried Indian By Nature on Thappraya road LT?. It's an up-scale restaurant with prices and portion sizes that reflect this, but the food is very good.

    Shenanigans, Found it!

Found it, no sign yet, so made a guess recalling a Peacock in the past. Burger was very good. 8/10. Magners on tap, also good. Bht170/pint. Looks like a good menu, I will return.

I see no option to upload a picture of the burger, so you will have to trust me on it!

Was nice when that reservoir just had two or three restaurants around it.

    Relaxing.

It felt like out of town.

I see that the Lakeside restaurant that has been shut for years is being renovated.
