The Million Years Stone Park is, perhaps, the worst place I have been to. I was actually interested in the fossilized trees but I did not realise (more fool me) that it was really just another typical Thai animal cruelty hub that these animals specialize in.

They also practice the abhorrent double pricing charade as well. 400 baht for farang and 150 for Thai. Despicable, and just a typical example of the horrendous attitude of the majority of Thais to animals.

The tree park is nothing special at all.

By the way, in one section, there is a cage tucked almost out of view with 20-30 tigers in there. It is about 25-30 square meters. I am completely of the opinion that this is a fricking tiger farm, and the place is a front to breed tigers to sell to the chinese for their love potions.

The place is barbaric - avoid at all costs.

Every country has to go through its growing pains. Look at the zoos from the 20's - 40's in the US and UK animal penitentiary's.

I remember going to a local zoo in Massachusetts when I was a child this was in the 80's. They had a Tiger in a 6' by 10' cement cell with bars in the front. The poor thing just paced back and forth in its prison everyday all day. Found out later that when an animal does that it means that it has gone insane from not getting what it needs for its own happiness.

I remember feeling such sadness watching that Tiger pacing but not really knowing why at that time. The memory still affects me to this day!

Unfortunately animals aren't considered people so that makes a lot of supposed people think they can use and abuse and own them.

Got to say that wherever possible I make a point of avoiding any double pricing tourist places, largely on principle but also because many of these 'attractions' are actually pretty awful.

Generally my wife takes the kids in and I then scoot off to find a beer somewhere instead. It means that she then doesn't have to put up with me grumbling about it and I get an hour or so's respite. Everyone's a winner.

Good post. Can't be so high and mighty when we were doing the same just a few short years ago. I to have very strong memories of seeing animals manically pacing and swinging their heads to and fro in trance like states, totally oblivious to the world around them.

I remember seeing a polar bear at Chessington World of Adventures, he would take three steps to the left and swing his head up in the air. Then take three steps back to the right and swing his head up in the air that way, he would then do that over and over again. I'll never forget the day I went back about a year and a half later to see the exact same animal doing the exact same thing. Tragic.

And who doesn't remember the travelling circuses? That's the other time I remember vividly. Took a peak in to a tent and saw chained elephants brain dead and zombiefied.

Thailand is a developing country and they're no worse than we were 20 years ago. Hardly a surprise what they do and hardly a reason to be on such a high horse.

They are probably a bit young to of noticed the sad state of the tigers , the camel didn't look to happy either, I think they would of liked the crocs,(and the cakes) Would you say that it's the worst zoo you've seen?Perhaps we shouldn't really moralise considering pattaya also has a large petting zoo called walking street where the inmates are mostly from issan and spend a large portion of there time on there backs and sucking cocks of the great unwashed

Last week I was at Noog Nooch botanical garden in Pattaya.

It was the hand bags birthday and she wanted to go so we went down for 2 days.

2 days too many for me Though. Got out of there ASAP.

Noon Nooch was absolutely brilliant, I highly recommend you go check this place out.

250 for her 500Bht for me. Worth every cent and had no problem paying 500 BHT.

Saying that, I love National parks and plan to tour everyone in Thailand over the next few years so I will get a local driving license.

Pay Thai price this way mostly. Some places you will still pay farang price but tough shit.

Its nothing compared to equivalent spots at home.

At the floating market, Ripleys believe it or not and entrance fee to Baiyoke tower in Bangkok the missus passed herself and the kids of as Thai so it was only me who had to pay full whack for being a large mammal, Spent the savings on beer. Great view from up there by the way, got a few good pics of the Bangkok traffic madness from the 84th floor

These places are fucking horrible but if you buy or eat supermarket meat and/or dairy, you are almost certainly participating in something at least as bad but which is on a scale which makes the small-scale cruelty of places like this vanishingly small.
