    Miserable old men in Pattaya

What's up with these old kunts I ask?

So many sour faced old men there nursing a beer and looking miserable - perhaps that's what happens when you're too old to do it properly?

Now Pattaya seems a fun place to go to for a weekend for a single bloke but I guess living there could be tiresome. But then again - would you be miserable living there off a pension and being able to fuck a different girl everyday?

Not me I reckon but hopefully I'll be dead by then anyway.

^ At least you know who you are today, mate. That's important don't you think.

You should invite CE around for cocktails when he visits Pattaya next.

I'm probably thinking too much about it here, but here's my thoughts.

Many times, these guys holidayed in Pattaya and other parts of Thailand and South East Asia, dreaming of one day retiring there, far from shit weather and fat, pasty, whinging, farang women.

Now they are here, yes, they do not get it up as often as they once did...in part because they can't and in part because after having what they want every day, it loses the fascination it had on a two week holiday once a year!

So now, what was one of the major attractions has been negated, what is left?

Some want companionship as they grow old...something many farangs back home want as well. Now a Pattaya bargirl may be great for a weekend, but companionship? Some of these guys wind up VERY disappointed. (I have met a few of these sort...all left Pattaya for this reason, looking for country girls in country towns as an alternative.)

So there they are...on a pension so money is not great, but OK...they can get some fresh tootie whever they want, but it is losing it's fascination...and they are bloody lonely.

They look around themselves while sitting at a bar...despite it's downfalls, it still seems better than life at home, which truly sucks for a single pensioner.

(Let's face it, old men in farangland aren't exactly a barrel of laughs either!)

So they hang around looking miserable until they have a heart-attack or pluck up the "courage" to swan dive from their 32nd floor apartment...

    Not just Pattaya.

One of the images I retain in my mind is poking my head into a bar on Patpong. The speakers were belting out the usual techno beat stuff and spaced equidistantly (is that a real word?) around the bar were about half a dozen miserable Europeans. They all looked like they would have liked to be listening to a bit of Mantovani or Perry Como.
    Lord, deliver us from e-mail.

    Yep.

They used to call one of Australia's favourite retirees spot, the Gold Coast in Queensland Australia, "God's Waiting Room".

Maybe it is better applied to some places around Thailand.

Some of them are dead but just don't know it yet...

Will you be bringing your Perry Como collection with you when we go sailing? A sing along under the stars always makes those long evenings pass more quickly.

If you see my father sitting outside in the evenings, you would think he is just a miserable old git, but actually when I talk with him he seems to be quite happy.
Imagine how miserable most of these old people were if they had to live back in old cold Europe.

It's a whole different story though for those without a good pension.

That's why I said they "used to"...it's from a line in an 80s detective film "Paradise Lost".

Now it could applied to pretty much everywhere in Queensland - Sunshine Coast, Hervey Bay or even my town Bundaberg. And it's spreading further north every year.

I plan a short sojurn in pattaya about march,a bit of a recco really.
I envisage coming to live for good somewhere around there in a couple of years.Whilst I am 54 I still do physical work in the building industry, can still get it up occasionally, love house music and reggae and enjoy the company of young people.
The thought of sitting around in the west is an ageing society is so depressing,I am coming to build and root and drinck.
