Pattaya , not only for Mongerers

Im just back from a short holiday to pattaya, and koh samed, It was the wifes idea to go as it was school holidays and she wanted to give the kids something to do other than fuk about in the house and break shit, I must admit being a bit skeptical about having a beach holiday in pattaya as last time i went i didnt recall seeing a beach, Pattaya ( or jomtien ) turned out to be quite a pleasant spot for a bit of sun and sand

The day of departure we flew out of udonistani and it was pissing down , i had booked a place online called phanchalae boutique residences which was a sort of converted condo come holiday rental , self contained and with large rooms it wasnt to bad

Had a decent little pool fo the kids and a night market across the road, about a hundred m from the beach and a few pubs to

Took a taxi from don muang to jomtien for 1800 baht and arrived late afternoon , first thing to do is get some seafood happening followed by a few cold beers

Taxi driver drove like an absolute knut and scared the fok out of me

In this little complex of bars they must of gotten tired of punters doing a runner without paying 5 baht to have a slash, Had a turnstile to get in

Next morning the kids were up early and demanding i entertain them, we hopped on a baht bus and headed for bali hai pier to get the ferry over to koh larn, quite a pleasant little spot and a screaming bargain at 30 baht per person for the ferry ride over ( only about 45 minutes)

Nice thread BL. I actually quite like pattaya, and it is possible to have a decent time there away from the sleeze of walking street.

    Classy with the pissoir.

Some of these 'condotel' places are good deals.

Some decent food to be had in pattaya.

I can see why that high rise has been taking some flak.

    jeeeezuzzz...

And I missed that cold ale with you mate.

Now I see the missed calls but I thought they were international and was waiting for that person (who was obviously you) to call back.

Anyway next time, great thread and I am glad you and your tribe had a good time.

This place seemed to be occupied by a couple of aging yuh ra mens and there aging wifes looked like we had the place to ourselves

arriving in koh larn we opted for the busiest beach but in hindsight we should of turned right when getting of the ferry that looked a lot quieter, The thais in speed boats and jet skis were making a hell of a racket.

we parked our arses under this throng of umbrellas,

Nice hot day that day and we all got a bit sunburned

even a bit of a perve to be had

Coming back we decided to give the kids a bit of excitement and caught a speedboat back. (Cant beat them so might as well join em)

Jomtien may not have the nice white sand that koh larn or samed are blessed with but the water seemed clean enough and wasnt a bad place to pull up a deck chair, order some food and a couple of cold beer and just relax i reckon

My kids certainly got there ( MY) moneys worth with those plastic buckets and spades

I didnt encounter a lot of russians in jomtien but all the signs seem to be in russian

Downtown there was no shortage of arabs though. All in pattaya practicing there religion no doubt

Next day we were up early again and of to see the pattaya floating markets

A bit over rated imho but seemed to pack the punters in ( mostly chinese according to the boat dude, And they didnt miss a chance to double charge the Farang,

To make it more authentic they seemed to have gone out of there way to make the water as smelly and grungy as possible, wouldnt want to fall in

It was getting pretty hot and the kids were a bit under whelmed with this so we set of for the pattaya water park

So back in the baht bus and of we go to the pattaya water park, this place is looking a bit worse for wear these days but at 100 baht entrance fee its pretty good value, theres a new one being built but we were told it wasnt quite finished

A bit of shade to relax in

Got to keep the nippers constantly amused so it was of to Ripleys believe it or not,

i Reckon the kids have had enough amusement for the day so i set of to find the cluster of beer bars near ronpho market to have a couple of beers with my workmate blue

Wasnt a lot of punters about so me and the big fella had the place to ourselves.

we were certainly Twatted when we finished

Didnt see any stunners in any of these bars, Most of them looked a bit jaded actually,

In Ban Phe we decided to take the speedboat over to koh samed 1600 baht return, you give them a call 1 hour before you want to come back and they come pick you up, but in practice we had to wait 3 hours on the beach for them,

The good thing about the speedboat though, is it drops you of on the beach right in front of your hotel

we had booked into a place called Lima Bella, not right on the beach but not far and quite nice

Had a good pool but the kids liked the beach much better

theres a lot of beaches to choose from but the one we stayed at( Hat Sai Kaew) seemed to have the most going on for restaurants and bars etc, looked like there were a few small beaches you could really get away from the crowd if you wanted

Plenty of little bars around to grab a drink

    or grab a squid

If lying around the beach on a beanbag drinking cold beers your thing ( and it is mine ) then your in luck on koh samed

or have a shisha and drink your beer out of a long straw
