    Aussie Pie shop - Sukhumvit....

Stumbled upon this shop which just opened a month ago.

Owned by a nice chap, Aussie, about 70 I reckon, and by heck does he make a good pie.

This is a Pork, Apple and Chili - absolutely delicious.

To find him, turn up the alley next to HEAVEN rub and tub place opposite Pattaya Klang, and he is on the left up there.

Pie cost 80 baht and it is substantial and very tasty. He was just pulling three tray fulls out of the oven when I arrived, and after 2 days all not sold are frozen.

I did ask him about his sign though "ASS Pies" thinking it was some aussie thing. He said Ass is for Aussie, and he wrote that on his penned sign himself as well. Ass Pie.

    Well I never.

Anyway - go and have a try - very very good pies, and he's an old boy giving it a go and well worth supporting (especially as the pies are sooooo damned good).

Map to the massage joint - he is behind it.

Well he obviously didn't eat all the pies then. Nice find but I reckon I would avoid the Ass pies.

You should try one of my wife's pies mate.

I cannot eat another because they cannot compare for taste and pastry.

Her apple and blueberry strudels, sausage rolls and Cornish pasties are also delicious.

Square shaped pie. And the Aus bloked called a Aussie Sausage Pie.

I'm not an aussie, so I don't know what your heathens do with a pies. However, it was bloody great.

I would imagine with a dollop of mash spuds on top and some peas, in a bowl of gravy, no one is going to turn their nose up at it.

Thanks for the heads-up Pseudolus, will give the old Diggers shop a visit for sure. Strange location though, no tourist would ever find it and most Brightside locals will still have trouble sussing it out.

Loy Toy I asked you once before about this but can't recall if you replied, are your Missus's baked goods available for the general public to buy anywhere?.

    Yep...
I believe it's all about the pastry, even when fillings can be compromised.
    Good for the missus!

    Cheers, LT!

No fucker can get the puff pastry right here particularly with the high humidity.

My wife knows how to offset this problem.

Looking at the picture, I thought the same about the pastry. On eating it though, nope, it was proper job.

As for gravy, there was none. Would be nice with some gravy on the top, but it didn't need it. Moist and lovely.

Doesn't even need to be a puff pastry type.
A decent flaky pie dough preparation would certainly suffice.

A matter of the correct technique.

Puff is easy enough IF you have an air con kitchen.
Lacking that, the best I can do is a rough puff which involves folding in shredded frozen butter just before rolling it out and even that required a few trips to the freezer in between roll outs.

PIE has other connotations in the land of Harriet Harman and Rolf Harris

grey meat in cheap pastry explains a lot about the failure of culture to adhere to the antipodean male
