A quick spin around Pattaya Park, Pratumnak

Eight years after DD did a thread about this place, (Pattaya Park Beach - Jomtien)and being at a loose end this morning, me and the missus jumped in the car to go and have a look.

It's found by going down Pratumnak Rd, and pissing about a bit, having gone too far, doubling back on yourself, seeing what you think is a bus car park, driving around a bit more, then seeing the big sign saying "Pattaya Park" and realising that you could have, after all, driving through the coach park in the first place 10 minutes previously to enter from the side.

So anyway, the empty car park in front of us, we try to find some shade to park in. After all, it is roasting hot here right now, and the car turns into a japanese solitary confinement sweat box after about 2 minutes, but to no avail. With hopes suitable low, we decide to go up the tower first and see how bad the buffet is.

Farangs are charged 200 baht, and Thai's 100 baht. We both got in as Thai. I didn't have to black up or anything to get the Thai price. I simple sat on the back of a pick up truck, playing loud music, supping Leo beer shouting "hello .... you ... you" at any whities passing by and that seemed to do the trick (along with my Thai drivers license).

Luckily the restaurant was closed (sneaked a few pics though) and opens at 11.am. I assume that they need the extra time in the morning for all of the hot food to start to cool and give a suitable amount of time for the binary fission of the bacteria to start properly to ensure that by opening time, there is a buffet of differing contamination and food poisoning.

I see why the Russians like it - high class and the rotation device is high tech for them.

    Up to the viewing room.

You get a free cup of crap coffee or crap tea with the entrance price.

The views are worth the admission though, despite the very dirty perspex glass mockering any attempt at decent pictures.

On the observation deck room, there is a nice shop

    A toilet

    Which has a urinal

(I took a shot whilst pissing which seems to be the tradition on TD - can post if you desperately want to see how dehydrated I was this morning).

With the dysentery buffet closed still, we headed back to terra firma for a look about.

It really is a sad place to be fair. Everything run down and dirty, but with some things for kids to do as well.

There is a small poor maintained fun fair section which seemed to be the ideal place to lose a finger or loved one.

    An old fashioned merry-go-round

A monorail which I didn't go on, but seemed to take guests from the hotel to the pool and beach and fun fair area. Quicker to walk.

Some rather nice little places tucked away such as this...

And the Divers shop that I assume where DD used to hang out.

Then there is one of the start attraction - a rattly old cable car ride.

Or the damn fool way to get down

Then there was the water park. We did not go in but I took the time to snap a few shots for the boys.

A bit too early maybe for all the Soviet Blok cunny to be out and about but I can certainly see the potential.

And a few random shots to finish off with.

Beach on the outside of Pratumnak Butlins.

    Some bint on the beach

...and that is that. I will keep it in mind for the next time I have guests staying that it might...just might... be nice to go to the pool area for a boozy afternoon messing about. It would need more russian arses to be out on parade though to make it worth while.

It reminded me of the time at school when for some unknown reason on a school trip, we were taken to Bogner Butlins for the afternoon to go to their pool there. We were all a bit scared and assumed it was a "see how the other half live" type of deal.

Everything was run down, a bit depressing, and frankly grubby (and not in the good way). Pleasant enough to walk around the gardens though, and the viewing room, if they cleaned the windows is OK even if it is a bit like a 1970's factory canteen during a walk out.

Only went because I saw the tower last week, wondered what it was, then read DDs thread and thought it worth a quick spin around prior to brunch. It's not that bad really, but I would not be rushing to climb aboard any of their rides or amusements.

My mate resides in North Pattaya and took his visting mother for a spot of lunch at the Pattaya Tower restaurant. You got off lucky as it was closed. Mate reckoned it was the worst food he has been served anywhere, ever. And he's not the picky type. Looked at it, tasted a morsel and immediately departed.

I only ever did the water park as I am shit scared of heights and Thai engineering.

Looking down on the pics not much appears to have changed, a couple of new water slides and I presume the blue thing is the rail for the train which was not there previously.

I wouldn't bother with the water park unless you have kids and need to kill a few hours.

    Great pictures pseudolus.

I cannot remember ever seeing the train but it was prolly the beer haze.

One thing I can remember is that the place looked grey and old and the clientele left much to be desired.

I wonder how old Cap Sensible is doing these days, now there was a character and he was worse in real life.

Went there a few yrs. back and just remember how underwhelming the place was and how much the price of a large Singha beer was.

Visited on my first trip to Pattaya which was the first and last time I took the cable car up the tower.
Never had any intention of trying the tower jump took in the views before taking the lift back down.

Have been back many times since just to use the pool, whilst staying in Jomtien I would take the kids a couple of times a week.

As with any pool you need to watch your kids like a hawk easily done in the toddlers pool.

My kids were far to young to play on the flumes alone the purple one is child friendly( probably let you go down holding a knew born ).

Not the cleanest of places nor by any means that great but for the admission price still good value and worth a look.

So true, if I'm not mistaken there was an English family there a few yrs. back and the young boy got sucked into a device in the pool and he sadly died.

    Remember reading about that.

From memory the boy was swimming under water and messing around with the filter inlet.
It was quoted that he removed the cover by one source and that a guard cover did not exist by another.
