    The Big Buddha, Pattaya

The Big Buddha that is found on a vantage point between Pattaya and Jomtiem is a nice relaxing diversion. I'm not religious, but visitors like to see some temple stuff when they are here and who am I to not allow them the opportunity to fritter away coins and take some pictures from one of the better viewing spots of the area (outside of a Condo).

    It is found here;

    Google Maps

And you can read all about it on trip advisor here

I prefer to go in the early morning, or in the evening when you can watch the sunset. Seldom busy up there but worth a trip. Just glad I didn't get roped into the praying business again - luckily the lady has given up on trying to coerce me into this.

    Here are a few snaps.

    Hope you enjoy.

I love the way that now you desperately want to be released, the photo threads are never ending, where as you happily admitted before you hate them and hate doing them.

So a few pictures of big buddah that every man and his dog have seen a million times before, and a few pictures of a fucking cafe, are so much better than my threads about car shows and music festivals? Yeah sure they are treacle.

Hope your release date is forth coming. It's funny as fuck watching a grown man snivel and grovel because he desperately wants to be part of a forum crowd, but it will be even funnier if it works.

Been there a few times Pseudolus, think the best views are by far seen from the opposite hill where the radio mask is.

No disrespect but I find impersonal photos quite boring.

    Aberlour

Yes I found this thread much more interesting than skipping past fucking various random cars you photographed at a poxy car show!

As for the music festival thread you posted it was 60% fucking youtube links with some crap photos of bands along with the usual mud faced shite you post.

You seem to idolize TonyBkk,I wonder if he will start blacking out his face if he turns into a nasty vindictive internet warrior like you

looks delightful, i was there a couple of weeks ago, first time in over 15 years.

it is, as many people say, a total shithole, surrounded on all sides by a polluted and poisoned industrial wasteland, and although the eating is good and the selection of western foods in the supermarkets is to be commended the town itself is just an ugly mess.

we had an excellent stay in the dusit hotel, an oasis of calm at the end of the beach road and the baht buses were super convenient. but the town and its offerings are nasty and tawdry.

the awful russian presence, to say nothing of the sleazy nature of beach road and walking street mean that the resort is, and probably always will be, a haven for lowrent foreigners and the lowrent thais that serve their needs, and gathering place of the ill mannered, the ignorant, the low and the shameless. a grotesque hogarthian caricature showing the depths to which humanity can sink if left to their own devices.

jomtien was little better, a traffic choked strip of low rent businesses, tightly packed condos and punters who may self delude that they are living it large in monte carlo or the riviera, but in fact seem to be stuck in clacton or marbella on a hot day.

awful place. worth a couple of days though just to reassure oneself and count ones blessing that one doesn't live there.

Open air brothels masquerading as 'family' resorts are rarely anything other than stomach turning dumps. Pattaya could have been a pleasant resort, but greed along with no planning has resulted in a grey urban machine whose development relied on poor farm girls selling their cunts.

Now I know why I have never been even tempted to visit. At least Phuket and Samui have some variety.

Never been there a photo thread of the area and whats on offer would be interesting.

Done Bangkok,Pattaya,Samui,Phuket,Krabi,Ko Chang spent a couple of days in Trat, and of course Issan.

All of them places offer whores if I remember correctly Ko Chang was the only place where I did not notice rubbish dumped as shown in Rainmans photo.

    Chass

When I visited Phuket I thought the beeches were much nicer than Pattaya but attraction wise very similar.
Big Buddha was worth the trip up just for the views but no other attractions come to mind.

Phukets Zoo was a run down dump the worst I have visited in any country.

Samui although nice offered much the same, again trip up to the view point and to the waterfalls were worth while.

We stayed at Chaweng beech where all the coral had turned grey and died due to the shit they dump in the sea.

It pissed down one day while we was on the beech, never seen so much waste flowing straight onto the beech and into the sea.

Suppose being small Islands they get away with this to a certain extent as the currents disperse the shit out to sea much quicker than the mainland bays.

yes, hua hin has whores, in a couple of small bar areas, and it has grasping cab drivers too, but in general its a quieter town, less sleazy, and much smaller than pattaya. there is a big influx of thais at the weekend. its dead after 11.30 pm.
not so many awful russians, but they are there.

nothing wrong with whores, but its so much more exciting if they operate from behind closed doors, out of sight, rather than walking the streets, a discreet glimpse is always more alluring than a brash full frontal and pattayas beach road was pure gutter trash, both the whores and their customers.

    .
The rubbish as shown is all over the place, as well as near where we live down both sides of the road. Thais love their country so much they tip crap anywhere.

Fair enough - however as it stands on this board there is no chance I would add the more interesting pictures. The pictures I most like is catching family and friends off guard (the antithesis of those dreadful posed photos you see so many of) where you can see the real personality.

I seldom go into Pattaya itself into the three roads area. Tend to agree. Always a little ashamed when guests are with us and the need presents itself to go there. Luckily it rarely happens.

Never been although I am tempted. How does the climate compare to the Pattaya region?

I've just come back from a couple of days at Koh Chang - not as dirty for sure although if you tour off the tracks a bit there are piles and piles of it. Nice enough place but not for me. Not sure if they know what 5 Star means in the real world but the Amari was certainly no where near, not least in terms of service.

i suppose the climate is pretty much the same, its hot.
although hua hin receives much less rain than the eastern seaboard.

as for russians, well the ones i have come across have been loud, boorish and ill mannered, and although the younger women can appear attractive and appealing after being subjected to wall to wall thai lookalikes for years, they dont age well, seemingly turning into fat waddling babooshkas overnight when they turn 40, (much like many isaan women actually)

hua hin is much quieter and less frenetic than pattaya, pattaya is fine i suppose for a couple of days for a shopping, neon and diesel fix, and it does come alive at night, but during the day it is a depressing place. it was like being in one of bangkoks run down suburbs.
