    Drug addiction help...

Ok, before the smart comments and flames... this is a serious question please. Is there a decent treatment facility in Pattaya?

No, it is not for me.. (I am hooked on sex, not drugs... and I find treatment most nights)

I would like to present an option for someone I know quite well to get assistance. Just don't know where to point them.

And, yes I know... long shot... they have to want help, yada yada yada.

    Just looking for any recommendations.

    Thanks All

Probably best to go home and get away from the temptations....

There are some temples that treat Farangs with drug addictions though. Try google.

I remember a place over in Pong near the 36 called (I think) Swiss Rehab.

It's off the beaten track but was quite a large place.

I rode past it when out on my quad a few times. If you're interested I'll ask some of the fellas who were with me who, I hope, have better memory's than me.
I would post pictures but life's too short.

It will also depend on what your friend is addicted to as well. Well done to be so concerned you are trying to help. I will though say what you don't want to hear.
he / she has to want to cure the addiction or you are both wasting your time and money.

I'm sorry but without the addict wanting it it is never going to work.
    I know from past experiences.
Treat everyone as a complete and utter idiot and you can only ever be pleasantly surprised !

Feeding an addiction isn't generally considered to be treatment AFAIK.

Yes, I am sure... Just want to point in correct direction. Sometimes a suggestion can take root eventually. Sometimes not. Not going to beat myself up... Just want to be friend. Although any suggestion might be met with anger..who knows.

    Turkey is always better warmed.

Pattaya, with all the temptations and availability of illicit drugs is a bad place to be.

I would suggest your friend gets out of the place and back home for treatment if at all possible.

    As Loy Toy says above...

And once clean he should NEVER come back. It's too easy/tempting to get whatever you want in Pattaya so it's no place to celebrate getting clean.

Yes... I have no idea how to get or how he does... One day he asked me if I wanted some ice... So I assume now he wasn't talking about cubes since I have been with him when he was getting very depressed after he went out on a LT. First thought he was just a typical drunk... But now I think not.

Thanks all... For we are our brothers keeper... Well, to a point. I've got a life also.

Thanks much... Not sure he wants to quit, and probably after he and I talk I won't be a friend any longer. I have been reading about addictions and am quite surprised ... I knew a little from back home, but its been 40 years since I smoked a joint and thought what? Why bother... This new generation of stuff is something if what I read is true. The up is very much so, but the down is worse.

Not sure yet how I am going to approach this with him... But I have to try....for my own conscience if nothing else.

To all, thanks again.never thought Thailand would have such a dark side to it....maybe a little naive on my part. Thanks again.

    K.Karl,

    Try Pattaya Forum (no-reply@pattaya.addicts.com)

This is a forum I followed once when there was a discussion going on about Pattaya and drug and alcohol addictions. I get a Pattaya Forum up date each week with that weeks topics. Varies from week to week. Not only for addictions, but general news and goings on.

    Hope this is helpful.

    Regards,

I think if you want to help your friend the best is to be here for him when he needs you.

Quitting is easy, it's a matters of a couple of days. It's what to do next that is the problem. The life of most addicts revolves around drug, that's the the only universe they know and most, if not all, of their friends are drug addicts too. So after they quit drug (including alcohol) they face a great emptiness in their life, nothing to do, no friends ... and that's the reason why most of them return to the only universe they know, addiction. So it's very important to take them out after they get sober, to introduce them to new activities, to new friends, to show them there is a life beside drug.

That's my experience growing up in a neighborhood where drug abuse was a problem, for what it's worth.
The things we regret most is the things we didn't do

there is a medication "naltrexone" and it reliefs withdrawal symptoms immensely and it also suppresses those "reward"-effects (that addicts get from their drugs)... i think its just sold out everywhere, but maybe you or he would read up on it...
(sold out because its apparently used for approx 5 million off-label-treatments as well...)

its for the physical withdrawal, and partially also for the mental thing (as with the reward), but doing a withdrawal in pattaya - of all places on earth - doesnt sound promising...
im not sure, what happens when taking this medication and drinking, i think it doesnt have life-threatening side-effects...

I wish to thank all for the caring and suggestions... my friend has told me to mind my own business... that I have no idea how good the sex is.. and I guess the girls all take also. Not sure if he gives to them, or he gets from them.

Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get HIV also from this. ... during our rather candid conversation it came out he isn't using condoms either.

Yup.. the land of smiles. Thanks again, and I will be here if he decides he needs help...but the next step is his. All I can do.

At least you tried to help your friend. I had a good friend back home in the UK. The life and sole of the crowd. he liked a smoke as we all did at the time and a bit of speed or a pill for a party was the norm. I started to get told by people that he was no dabbling in smack. and mainlining speed. I pulled him to one side one afternoon in the pub and told him what I had been told. He brushed it off as people trying to get him a bad name and even rolled up his sleeves to show me that he had no injection marks. I told him if I ever caught him messing with smack or needles I would give him a good slapping.
A friend and I found him dead in bed a few months later. He had been there three days. He still had the needle in his ankle where he had been jacking up all the time.
It turned out he had been given some very good heroin instead of the crap bought on the streets but he still jacked up with the usual amount which killed him.
Having to call his Dad and tell him his son was dead, and how was the hardest phone call I have ever had to make.
As said my friend you tried and that is all that counts.
They have to want to be helped. He, like my friend evidently doesn't

    life is deadly...

the question is: is it really the aim and the ultimate goal to get as old as possible, or is it the "right" mix between enjoying and just not checking out too early... ?

personally, i dont think a maximum age is the thing to go for...
chose the way you want to live and when its over then its over...
    next one...
