I am looking for an old mini to have restored.

I had a quick look online. There is a Thai-language Mini forum which lists some Minis for sale. Even if you can't read Thai, the prices and details are all pretty obvious.

An older style mini ? Are you nuts ? Why bother ???? Minis are utterly outdated technology. And where would you get spare parts ? Far, far more trouble than they are worth.

Old Mini's are somewhat problematic because of running the engine and transmission oil together in the same case. I know of a really nice one in Ranong, they never drive it, it's just nice to look at.

I'd rather have a massaged old VW Beetle, at least that car is better suited for a warm climate.

By 'massaged' do you mean converted to liquid cooled? A friend of mine has a quite pristine one, at least cosmetically, and it is always breaking down probably due to the heat.

What makes an old Mini problematic? Had one for years, rain never effected it, shared oil never effected it. Great fun. In this climate maybe an oil cooler would be good. Mine had one as standard.

Agreed AC might be a touchy subject I don't even know where one would put it.

Mini Moke would be a perfect island car!

Not sure I'd be brave enough to restore one!
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

Quite like those old Minis but (as per the usual case here) they're very expensive - I've seen near mint/pristine ones for around the 900 - 1m Baht mark.

rear engined cars are better suited for hot weather because you don't have all the heat of the eng/trans in front of you.
The fan cooled VW/Porsches were brilliant engineering and extremely pleasant cars to drive without air conditioning.
