Suggestions for flood&mud free place up North-East

My wife and I are going up to Udon Thani to see her parents but after that we'd like to spend a week in the mountains or somewhere away from flooding. Does anyone have a good suggestion for some place in the mountains in that general area that has cheapish accomodation and isn't too muddy ? ?
We can't just go to any old mountain as the roads in may be too gunked up with mud.....eg. Khao Yai National Park.

I'm in that neck of the woods and we don't get flooded due to the fact that I absolutely forbid it...as well as the area being at a relatively high altitude.

Go on to Roiet, they complain about a drought. Stay at Mai Thai (500 Baht) and head to 101 Club about 2300 Hours. You gonna Rock!

Thanks, gents. I'll look up a bit more about it, if possible. There is some kind of cheapish accomodation there, I guess ?
Leaving this morning, so will have to view this thread in the next few days from an internet cafe in a grass-thatched village hut somewhere in the deep dark North.
I'm tempted to go and see the dragon lights rising from the Mekong but someone else said the traffic jam going home is unbelievable.
Might pass on the club in Roi-et. Usually I'm quite unconscious at 11 pm......unless there's Latin music and I'm dancing.

Phu Foi Lom is worth a day out at.

There's a museum, Nong Prajak Park, The Bookhouse for food & cocktails and that's your lot.

Oh, Nutty Park is a reasonable place for a few beers and meeting people.
