Phrae - English language books?

Hi everyone

Im a newbie here. Been living in Thailand for 5 years now with my thai boyfriend. We live down in Koh Phangan, but his hometown is Phrae where we spend about a month or so of every year.

Been here for 3 weeks now this time around and getting quite bored, not much for young farrang girls to do! So I wondered if there are any of you guys that live here too, could you please point me in the right direction of any bookshops that (might?!) sell english language books. Would be great to know for future reference!

If you have any guesthouses or hotels, or bars, in the area, many of them, especially in more remote areas, keep on hand a stock of books in a variety of languages that guests have left behind. I've gotten lucky like that more than a few times, in places as remote as Afghanistan (many years ago), Bangladesh and Cambodia.

If you mean secondhand books then you are out of luck.

If you mean new books then try
Tower Books (opposite Nakhon Phrae Tower)
Duang Jai Books (half a klick further going west)
Mark Four Plaza (ground floor, Thanon Phuket)

Quite a good selection in those book shops you normally find next to Tesco Lotus..can't remember the name now..

dasa book cafe (bangkok) has a full list on their site of 2nd hand books, as far as I know you can order, pay money into their bank account and they will post them to you. I buy loads of books from there and sure they would be reliable.

That's about as big as the list is gonna get I think.
The SE-ED bookshop in BigC is quite large for it's location, but seems to only sell Thai language. Last time I tried I couldn't even get a Bangkok Post in there.

What about you missmaipenrai. What part of Phrae are you in?

Mainly in Rong Fong, but sometimes stay with the extended family in Baan Lao, Sung Men. Although, when my boyfriend has his way, we spend more time at the fishing parks then either of the family homes! Hence the need for books for me to read whilst waiting......!

If you mean Phrae City then I would guess about 20.
Phrae Province obviously has a lot more which is why you are more likely to meet farangs during the day doing their shopping than in the evenings.

I just went to the website for Dasa Book Cafe in Bangkok, and it has a download for Excel that has over 15,000 books. Many, over 50%, are in english.

I only personally know 3 farangs and they live miles from me!
BigC is the only place where you see more than 1 farang walking about.
There's a small community in Song (about 4 farangs).
Not seen any in Long to date (apart some a Swede who done a runner 2 years back).
Good luck learning the lingo. Da da daa da da daa da da (say it really quicky) is used a lot to substitute the end of a sentence the local folks cannot be bothered to finish.

Absolutely correct.
We had a friend come over from UK and he was shy about talking to the girls.
We taught him to say "Er, Er, eee eee Er"
He sat there all evening just saying that and smiling a lot.
One of the girls commented later on how good his thai was.
