I usually stay at the Prince Hotel, but it's in the 800 baht range.
Central location good parking and nice staff and the rooms are nice.

OUt of town but check this place out: https://teakdoor.com/thailand-hotels-...ight=Boonpawat
Think they raised th prices to 500 for high season. The place is out of town a bit and there ain't hardly ever a song teaw cruisin by but if you got a ride it's quiet, clean and away from the toursit areas. If you ain't got a ride don;t even think about it it's a kilometer+ walk to the super highway to grab a Song Teaw or bus. Plenty of restaurants around the neighborhood.
In town, There are a few listed in this thread https://teakdoor.com/the-captains-lou...iree#post92788
Some are in your price range some are not. As you mentioned this is hte high season. The place is crawling with baggy shorted folks. (the locals are in parkas at night) But there is always a room available some where in town.

Are there any other hotels in the vicinity of Pirates Cove? It seems a bit sad to base our hotel choice on proximity to a pub - but thats the kind of guy I am......

Any idea on the rates for Anodard hotel. I guess we will get 2 rooms unless there is such a thing as a family room.

Is it worth booking hotel on line or just turn up and hope to get a cheaper walk-in rate?

Sorry for all the questions - if it was just me I would just turn up and find out - but you know how it is with a family in tow.

SBF - are you flying straight to CM and back ?

if not, you may want to consider taking the overnight sleeper train to CM - very inexpensive and the kids will love the adventure!

thats certainly an idea. my plan was to fly direct to CM on Tiger Air, but as they are budget flights anyway and based on one-way flight prices we could fly to bangkok and then fly home from changmai.

i'll have to run this one past the troops (especially the regimental sergeant major)

    thanks man.

that Suk 11 hostel may be a good place to stay in bangkok for a couple of days before taking the train to chiang mai. the family room seems reasonable priced.

ok so i will be in Chiang Mai in less than a month.

Can anyone recommend a nice hotel in the city area with a swimming pool for the kids and preferably with family rooms (there will be 4 of us). Oh yeah and not too expensive.

    Cheers.......

LC told me the Anodard is not that fantastic.....

    Top North have family room and a pool.Nothing fancy,but I think it's about 900THB with 3 beds??

I've got to go in there today to book a room for a mate, so i'll check it out.

Pirates Cove might have a couple of rooms available as well? very cheap.Have TV and DVD player, but shared showers/bogs.
