    Guest houses in Chiang Rai

    Going to Chiang Rai tomorrow.

I have only been there once before and we drove around a lot before finding a guest house.
There didn't seem to be any real hub area.

Does anyone have any guest houses that they'd recommend?

When we're going we're staying at nagahill... I think it's a bit out of the town though, but it looks quite nice, I think Thetyim recommended it, but I might be wrong...

In town I stay at the Moon& Sun

    Yesterday I found this
    Welcome To Nimhotel.com

Not sure if it is a brand new hotel or just changed its name
Anyway is it quite near the action and about 500 baht
They have two hotels make sure you are looking at the CR one because the website is confusing

It gets cold at night up there. you may want to opt for a full-on hotel.
    BUT.
BEN GUEST HOUSE, 35/10 Sunkhong Noi, Soi 4, Tel. 716775.
I stayed there about 3 - 4 years ago. The guest house is off the beaten track, down a tiny soi. Too far to walk to the Night Bizarre but close enough for five minute drive. They had two buildings there both traditional style one an oldie all wood elevated nice restaurant below (where I got he idea for a lower area below grade) The place is clean and the newer building rooms are en suite with anemic water heaters, they do take hte chill off but are not "hot" by any means. The older building is not less clean and is half shared bath half en suite rooms. Rooms are small but nice It has been four years though so take a look before you rent. The owner was trying to sell back then but wanted so much money for the place I'm pretty sure he's still there...

There's another I stayed at once; downtown about two blocks from the night market area. Was run by a Korean Man. Don't remember the name, had a dormitory and three rooms upstairs, scrupulously clean. The three rooms upstairs were always empty when I went, they shared a common bath though, for your party it might be OK if you rented them all. Korean restaurant below, try the BeBimBab. Minimalistic but close to everything. It's on the corner across the street from Wat Jet Yod; walking distance from the might market. Sorry no number

I would avoid the WhiteHouse unless your up for a Khao San Rd type experience.

I just found your thread that included pics of the moon and sun.

that looks fine for the price to me.

Moon & Sun is very clean.

I hate places where the bed linen feels like it has come from the dog's basket.
The bed clothes in BoonBunDan Hotel was full of cigarette burns

Moon & Sun is a great option as I have stayed there on 2 separate occasions and the rooms are spotless and you get a free breakfast that is not so bad.

    Good recommendation.

Moon and Sun and Baan Bua seem the picks.
Depending how long we stick around, that NagaHill might be nice for an idyllic, cold night.

Thanks very much to Thetyim for the hotel recommendation.

The Moon and Sun is excellent value.

Very clean indeed and only about a 15 minute walk down to the Night bazarre.

    600 baht a night.

    helpful staff.

    Absolutely spotless.
Will use it again when we go back.

It is a proper hotel and not a guest house , so 600 for a nice clean room with cable tv , hot water , etc. etc. is a good deal.

There is a good selection of food carts right down the road for a late night snack also.
