6 dead here in the past 3 months and 1 not expected to see next week...out of a population of 300 that's a bit OTT...I could understand farangs dying of boredom out here in the jungle but these people were born and brought up here.

I think we should be told!

My mrs is always going to funerals about one a week and a pretty small village I live in "representing the family" (read the only one who can put 200 Baht in an envelope...) Maybe she just uses that for an excuse to go see her friends...I never go, bloody music blaring at 200 Db all night, stuff that.

Every time I see the villagers with the herbacide/pestacide tank strapped to their backs not wearing protective clothing I get the answer.

Looking through this thread I also thought there are alot of deaths here in my area.
when the cool season starts and a cold snap comes along it seems to pick of the older weaker ones.
In recent years most funerals I have attended, Cause of death was:

    Old age
    Liver problems
    Cancer
    Vehicle accidents
    Aids

I hear the 3 bangs almost every day.

When we moved to Angkrillee I used to sit out on the porch with the evening brew and enjoy the light classical Thia music that wafted across the valley. A very pleasant background to the birds singing and critters chirping. I asked the ms. where the music came from and she told me it was the evening music from the wat.

One day it was eerily quiet and I asked where the music went to. Her reply -"No one dead today". Considering that the Thai funeral goes from a couple of days to as long as a week (if your rich) the music was a constant background in the evenings.

It was rare that it was totally quiet.

The village was populated primarily by older folks as all the youngsters were off working in Chantaburi, Rayong, Pattaya or Bangers.

Well, one thing to consider is that some people go home from the city to die upcountry if they know they are dying.

I can't say that I've heard of people dying in my wife's area in the last month but a month or so ago a couple died. One thing I've noticed lately where I am is that there are very few houseflies. I don't know if that means anything; maybe they are being attracted to the countryside.

What's it like in your village or town. They seem to be dropping of like flies. The first few months she'd ask me to go but now I'm afraid not. Too much food and too much talking. At this rate the bloody place will be empty soon.

Any one else got the same kinda thing going on?

What do you mean by too much food and too much talking?

Two more today. Put a bit of a pall on the annual area sports comp. Well, for about half an hour anyway. That's 4 in the last 7 days.

Lost count this end, must be around 16 the past 6 months from a population of about 1200-1300 including kids...haven't had two in a day though, the crematorium couldn't cope with that.

We have consistent deaths and death-related tamboons on a regular basis within a 4-5 village surrounding area, perhaps a population of 2,000.
