Kinda looks like a swollen Pineapple. Is it Eaten? (OK, stupid question) what's it look like inside?
I don't think so.Originally Posted by friscofrankie

Funny that you should mention Pineapples because we do get some strange red wild pineapples here. I found this one just up the road from our place.
Showed my wife and she had never seen one before Tetters...sure you're not taking the piss here?..
^
I am not taking the piss and my wife has never seen one before.
I really doubt that the organisers would have allowed someone to exhibit a fake fruit/vegetable so that only leaves the answer that it is some obscure plant.
As FF said it looks nothing like a coconut and doesn't even appear to come from a tree. I am just trying to find out what it is.
If it turns out to be a fake/joke plant then I will be looking pretty silly.
This one with the large baps is as close as we've got so far.Originally Posted by melvbot

When the race started they all went backwards except the boys in red.
Later they all changed to going forward when the boys streaked ahead.
My guess would be that farmers go backwards in order to plant nice straight rows but forward is quicker
if doing only 2 rows for racing.. yeah go forward is quicker, but if it's more than 5 rows i believe that do it backward is better
and the reasons why the farmers plant the rice backward are;
a: they don't want to stamp on the rice
b: to go backward helps to make the mud softer
...
Just a suggestion Thetyim could it be a type of pumpkin or gourd. I have not found anything like it yet with the unusual markingsOriginally Posted by Thetyim
nice thread! I really like the photos & the descriptions.
I've heard some wonderful things about Phrae, so maybe after I visir Phayao, I'll stop by there for some country living!

I really liked the small night market in the city center of Phrae. The Plaa Tong Go stand (thai fried doughnuts) was probably the best I have ever eaten anywhere.
I just asked my son thetyim and he has no idea what that is.
After a long search I think I have found the answer.
It's a Cycas Pectinata from the Cycadaceae family.
No idea of the English name, discovered by a Scotsman in India and only grows in mountain jungles.
Fully grown looks like this
Great pictures and a different view on life. Thanks!
Cheers Thets nice pics
