    Nan Hospital

The missus needed some minor surgery, so we opted for the best (and only) major hospital in the province, referred to by a specialist clinic.
Arriving 6am, by 8am registration complete and blood-pressure taken.

Since it's a gov hospitan, eberythink is cowered by tha insurance, so Mr. Farang was in a generous mood and splashed out on a private room for 800bt/night.

    Oops, not a good start:

This sign came on and off frequently duting our stay.
Never mind, it's only the 4th floor...

    Nope.

Nah, we're far too hi-brow for that.
    The patient:

    And the minder:

Was ok, except no smoking or boozing on the premises.

    For DD:

Air-con and fridge as well, but no hot water.

The VIP room looks OK to me. And for 800 bht a night, bangkok pattaya and bumungrad can stick their farang prices where the sun don't shine.

Around here, the hospital at Sattahip is good enough for the royal family, and good enough for me.

Well, it ain't BNH, but you can't complain for the price. Room looks basic but clean enough. Shoes are ugly by the minder's cot though. what's that kind of round thing on the floor by the patient's bed?

I've seen the best and i've seen the worst in my travels. And this i'd say is somewhere in the middle. Not a bad place in my book. How is the noise level?

In that case good advice is not to get sick in rural India. Had a mate went down with some plague on his travels, and can't be sure but would happily bet it was the hospital that did him in.

That's what I think. Noise level is low, but you do get the occasional playing toddler in the corridor.

No blood needed, thanks for the thought, it really is 'minor', or I'd be in Chiang Mai or Bangkok now.

One of the things that really pisses me off in Thailand is the bleeding of farang wallets in Thai Private Hospitals.

Ever since the idea of 'Health Care Tourism' took off hospitals throughout Thailand have been hiking their prices for foreigners in the belief that we are all subject to the disgraceful US practice of healt care only for those who can pay.

The impact of this is directly upon foreigners living in Thailand on modest incomes/pensions.

If I were you Stroller I'd keep your cheap health care find to yourself and don't whatever you do let the staff there know how much you'd be paying elsewhere..

^Yes, this is true, prices have been rising. I spent about a million Baht last year at a well known Bangkok private hospital for a heart problem. The same procedures I had would have been triple that cost in the US at least. So, relatively speaking even the best Thai private hospitals are still cheaper than care in the west, when you have to pay for it yourself.

In my case, I had a pre-existing condition and I'm always facing the possibility of huge medical costs in the future because of this. However, I did get top flight care.

But, you're right, prices are rising, and the advantages are still there, but getting smaller.

I am not so sure I'd recommend this one.
Well, for standard stuff it seems quite adequate, I was treated in a Bangkok gov-hospital, not dissimilar, a number of times before.

No, I don't need flowers by the bed and a nurse to wipe my arse.

Waiting with the others outside the OT building:

After three hours, the batteries on my music/foto thingie went flat.
Either they killed her and were too "kreng chai" to tell me, or the OT queue was considerably longer than they made me believe.
