Doi Inthanon, about 8 1/2 thousand feet high, it's about 80 miles southish of chiang mai and is a very pleasant place, especially if you're a bird-watcher. It's well worth a visit, though you should check the weather first. You can get there on a motorbike (the most fun), hire a car or drive your own, or go on an organised tour (the least fun). Big difference in national park entrance fees for farangs (last time I was there it was 10 x Thai price) , work-permit or tax/social security ID will get you local rates.

I reckon you can do better visiting lots of other places around there. All that tourism stuff going on....but it can be nice if you walk away from it all.

A good mate is arriving on the 6th December and he said he wants to see the jungle....he`s only in Chiang Mai for a week. I was thinking of getting a motor & driver,as necessary, and getting out and about......

A Thai driving license should get you local prices on entry. But don't take my word for it
