Bahn Fhasai Housing Development, Chiang Rai

Hi there,

Does any one have any information or dealings with the Bahn Fhasai housing development in Chiang Rai. My GF and I had a look around the development in March this year and they looked ok, more important she liked them. A bit diferant to the Sinthanee development we looked at but so was the price.

My main reason for asking is that the leaflet I was given looked as if it had English and Thai writing on the front but the only English is the name of the company or development, I can't tell which. They do give a phone number (053-742794-6) but no email address and I would like to find out more about this company before deciding if I will (or my GF will) buy one of their homes.

So, any help apreciated.

Best way is to talk to other foreigner at the location, but im sure you thought of that already.

Helicopter, yes I had thought of that but still living in the uk, hope to move to CR somtime next year. Also, the leaflet being in Thai screwed up my plans for contacting them when I got home.

I have seen those houses, pretty basic town houses, mostly for Thais hense the lack of information in English.
I don't know the company but would imagine they are a small local developer.
I will try to get more information for you.

That was the impersion I got from the build quality but the GF liked them, I suppose because of other Thai people living there. So, any information on this development would be helpfull, look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Hillbilly, thanks fot the reply but could you be more specific? The development did seem a bit remote from the town but there were plenty of people living there.

It was the last place we looked at that day so I don't remember a great deal about it other than the agent was keen to show us round and showed us round one of each type of house available.

We spent almost 2 years looking for a home to buy in BKK. Visited many under construction 'villages'. They all had a final phase project outlined. However, most were in phase 1 or 2 at the most. The 4th phase usually being the final phase.

Most of these new 'moobans' do not have the local store down the street. So a homeowner either has to buy everything for dinner beforehand or make another trip outside the 'mooban'.

Finally, what I have seen is that many 'moobans' will complete the 1st phase and then stop.

The pool never comes, the recreation center never comes, the tree-lined playground never comes...

You'll also be living on top of your neighbors. ok if you dont mind not having any privacy.

To all of you, thanks for all the replies, the points you raise and keep them coming. I like Chiang Rai my GF lives there and her Family live about 20k away, but I can see that finding somwhere to live is going to be harder than just looking around the new developments we visited.

if you hardly know the place, rent somewhere

then if your relationship founders, no problems

if it progresses nicely, you can continue to look around, so don't be in such a hurry

DrAndy, thanks for the reply, can you recomennd any? This combined with renting for the first year seems to be the best option at the moment.

recommend some??! I live in CM, and don't know CR very well

all you have to do is initially stay in a guesthouse and look around for a while, talk to people etc etc

when we first arrived in CM, we stayed in a guesthouse and cycled around all the backlanes and after a few days found a house

you often need to speak Thai, so take the g/f

Got to agree with the renting first, easy to go if you get the neighbour from hell move in next door, ie he may decide that rubbish collecting is a great way to make money so then turns his garden into a storage area, obviously he will need half a dozen rancid soi dogs to protect all his lovely empty cans etc, and then things might go down hill from there

dirtydog, good point about the neighbour from hell, always been lucky so far with them next door although I have helped friends in the past to retaliate, silent dog whistle's are great.

there are plenty. all the same, more or less (not Barclays, their service is terrible

some of the building socs have an offshore offshoot, and they tend to give better interest

If you use one in Jersey/Guernsey/IoM etc, to avoid tax on your interest you have to prove you live outside the EU (easily done if you do)

you can use other places but I am not sure about the security

DrAndy, Yes I'm having a look at the off shore options at the moment, Singapore looks good and has been reomended but I would not have thought to look there.
