    Having Fun in Mae Sot

Got to go to Mae Sot on Saturday on my own.
Been about 6 or 7 times before, but I've always had company.

Can anyone out there give me some heads up where to go after dark, or even in the daytime?

Gonna dig back through some of the older threads, but some up to date info will be apreciated.

    Cheers...

This is what Stickman says and I have to agree with him especially about everywhere closing early.

"Pattayaphiles will not find the nightlife of Mae Sot appealing. There is a smattering of farang friendly bars but these are not open very late, offer nothing much in the way of entertainment and don’t even have a decent selection of beers, although one does offer a wide range of not particularly authentic cocktails. These mainly serve as meeting or networking venues for various NGO workers volunteers and backpackers. It was only about 11pm when on a Friday night Julien and I went looking for a drink, and found nothing open except a Thai oriented karaoke bar upstairs on one of the two main streets. If you could endure the karaoke in the main room, beer was available at reasonable prices and the company of a Burmese lady could be purchased for 80 baht an hour. The usual private karaoke rooms were in evidence off to the side – inhabited usually by several drunk Thai men and one or two Burmese companions. In conversation with one of the girls we were advised that all night was available for 1500 baht, presumably paid in the establishment.

There is also a small red light district with about 4 or 5 somewhat boring bars supplied again with Burmese prostitutes. We investigated and found very few customers, and most were Thai although the girls claimed to have periodic farang visitors. This was all okay with us as we didn’t go for the nightlife."

^ Cheers Thetyim, just as I thought.

As I said. Always been with the missus, so it was the usual restaurant, beer and sleep routine.

^^ Thanks for the 3 kind words Sommyboy

^ A bit pricy for the local talent innit? Thai's paying less than 300 baht per pork. Make no mistake, always wear a raincoat.

I fekkin love Mae Sot. True there's not much going on after midnight, but why not just turn in early and have the hotel deliver a young Burmese Jungle Bunny or two to your room for an evening of fun ^_^v

I'm surprised you have been there more than one time. The drive out of Mae Sot is highly dangerous. Hopefully you won't be taking a minivan.

'Fun' and 'Mae Sot' are mutually exclusive....
    Been there, didn't do that.

It's a BRILLIANT ride on a motorcycle. Highway 105 from Tak to Mae Sot is good fun, if a bit slippery in places-

The road south to Umphang is very scenic and the road north to Mae Sarieng is slowly being turned into a race track-

Check this section out- epic sport bike road, and it keeps getting better!

You're a pussy. Just go out and have a good time. Take a picture of your grandma with you if you want comfort. Are you kidding?

Where did I say I would be shagging a whore?
I only asked where's a good place to go when the sun sets.

Made yourself look a bit of a tool with that mini rant of yours.

    Jog along now.

If I could I'd get on a bus and go back to Tak. Accomodation is a whole lot cheaper there and the night market along the banks of the river ping is a nice place to have a beer and do some people watching. Paid over a thou for a room in Mae Sot that would not have been more than 500 ( including breaky ) in Tak.

There is a hot spring to the north of Mae Sot but not very interesting unless you've got some eggs you're busting to boil. As another poster says, the road north to Mae Sariang is interesting if you have your own wheels but pretty dreadful on the back of a song taew.

Not a chance of that Bogon, however if I could change my nik, it wouldn't be Bugginout. More like WTFover would be appropriate for me.

I was in Mae Sot a couple of years ago with the wife and family just site seeing and there was a famous thai singer putting on a concert and the Thai govmt alowed the curfew to be relaxed so the Burma people could attend. The little town was crawling with these exotic long haired, long slinky dresses and I got so many smiles and 'come on' looks that the wife ushered me out ASAP. Wow, those Burma girls look hot!!

Stayed at Baan Maitee/Maitree Guesthouse, located along Asia Road (I think). It's along the highway going to the Myanmar border. Not near any of the entertainment areas or night spots, but it's certainly near the border - around 10 min drive (I took a taxi). Stayed 1N only, around 550 baht per night, including a simple breakfast of coffee, juice, omelet+rice. I think they let you choose if you like rice+omelet or toast. Double bed, with A/C & TV and own bathroom. Basic room, good enough for a quick stay or a visa run. There were lots of cars in the carpark when I left the GH in the morning. I took a taxi to the border, then crossed the border to Myanmar. This was in April last year, pre-booked the GH via Agoda.
