    Fatal Car Accident near Korat

    Hi gang,

My wife's mother was in a car accident about 30km outside of Korat heading towards Bangkok. The driver and front passenger died. Apparently it was a 12 seater van. Her mum is not answering her calls. Any information would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

You might be best to get a Thai to call the nearest hospitals around there for info? Being a van indicates a few people were involved so they should know easily enough.

    Hope everything works out ok.

Bung has posted my thoughts. Your wife could call any other family members or friends in the area and they could call either the cops or the hospitals to find out what's going on now.

Good advice. The information is rather sketchy. Her mother is not dead but no one knows much else. Maybe tomorrow. Thanks

Sorry it happened, wish you and your wife the best. I gave up those mini-vans after a 170KPH ride from Sattahip to Bangkok by a driver who appeared insane.

I've just been past the area and didn't notice anything. As others have said, hope all works out well for your family.

Mrs mother is fine! Called late last night shocked but her and her sister no physical injuries. Bloody hell go on about the dangers of the Thai roads, sort of brings it home! No details yet.

    Thanks

Just had two deaths in the village, A uncles son and a auntys daughter 15 and 16 years of age. The whole village has shut down for 3 days.
They were on a yabba run taking the back road short cut to Udon over the mountain and tried to run a yabba check point at 02:00 in the morning and hit a cop car.

Accident happened about 15miles South of Korat at 5am. A car crossed the road hit a vehicle in front of the van and then hit the 12 seater. The driver and the passenger behind him were killed. The Mother in Law and her 2 sisters were shaken but unhurt. Unfortunately the drivers 12 year old daughter was in the van! Unhurt but........

    Never know do you!

That's good your mil is OK, Sit.

I loath that stretch on the A-12/Hwy 2 from Korat to Saraburi.

Ones that really make you watch the rearview are along that big reservoir where you just missed the ranahan you want to dine at. The stretch from Chokchai Farm down to Saraburi is like a Formula 1 race.

Mrs took me to eat Chokchai, nearly died trying to do a U to go back to Korat. Truck almost nailed me from behind. Did not seem like much to do around Korat! I used to drive to the Mall for excitement!

It's decent the mall at khorat, admittedly it's like an elephants graveyard for Farang but not a bad day out when you're stuck in the bush.

Korat is more of a family place, not a party town. Hope it stays this way. As for driving here as anywhere - it pays to pay attention to your driving.

I don't think it did come across like that. There isn't much to do in the area really. Maybe Ceburat is a bit grouchy this morning. Mustn't have had his coffee yet.

I'm not scared of death but I'm shit scared of living permanently injured because of trauma caused by lack of fully trained emergency personal and being trapped in a wrecked vehicle.

I've done a heap of driving in Thailand and to see the monkeys in action is quite amazing. There complete lack of care and driving in a safe manner is something to behold.

To be involved in a car accident in the far north many miles from a fully equipped fire truck and ambulance carrying fully trained staff who use best practice in extraction methods and trauma care is something I don't wish on anyone.

We are on the scene within 7 minutes with a million dollars worth of emergency vehicles with staff to match and use world class technique in attending crash survivors and trapped people.

Something about the Thais that scream " Retards".

    Somethings never change.

I didn't mean that you guys where party animals or looking to party. I meant that Korat to most people is just plain boring. If you are a country boy and don't care about doing anything except staying home and shopping for only what you need then Korat is great, but not the place to be if you like to shop in the large stores, or dine out in upscale restaurants. BTW I am never grouchy except when around smokers and that nasty smelling smoke.

Fair enough! Wifes Family are in Korat so I got to know it, a little. Like ocean mountains sort of thing. Not sure how to stay sane if we settled in the Town. It was frigging hot! I comment about the mall was, to show how lost I was, I hate shopping and am very low key when it comes to nights out, but like yourself not grumpy.
