Surie Guest House ( Prasart , Surin )

Having just done a visa run to the nearby Cambodian border checkpoint at Chong Chom ( or Kap Choeng if you prefer ) we decided that it had already been a long day after the drive from Bangkok and opted to stay in Prasart for the night.

Surie Guest house is not easy to find but is worth the trouble if you are in this neck of the woods . Only 500 baht a night including full breakfast for two people : Tel 044 551222

Of all the wooden cabins I've stayed at in Thailand this one is the best so far. Very well made of Teak wood the owner told us that each one of the 10 units cost 600,000 baht to construct. They each come fully equiped with air con , fridge , cable T.V , hot shower and a comfortable bed.

Ms Bangyai was very impressed and thought one would look nice on her plot of land in Wichien Buri . ( In your dreams luv )

Nice views out the back too

The car was happy too as it had some shelter from the sun

As for food , there is a resteraunt block next to the car park that also cost several million to put together. The upper rooms are available for private groups to use.

So after checking in and a shower the sun was setting and we decided to try the victuals. Not the cheapest food in town but won't bust the budget either. The food served was very good but the portions were double what we were used to and we couldn't finish the 3 dishes we ordered with 2 beers ( 460 baht )

Still, a very pleasant atmosphere and very romantic if you're in the mood for lurv !

I have to say that the owner was a very nice guy who couldn't do enough for us and was very informative. Being a football fan he had all the premiership matches available and kindly offered to let me come and watch the Chelsea game instead of the soap his staff wanted to watch. Lucky for them I was bushed so Chelsea got through without me. The owner by the way is a Man Utd fan but nobodys perfect.

There is also wi fi available in the resteraunt building ( not the cabins ) for those who need the service.

The best surprise came the following morning at breakfast my favourite meal of the day. Quite a spread considering it is inclusive of the 500 baht accomodation.

2 eggs , ham , sausage , fries , tomato, toast , coffee , OJ and cookies. Luvely jubbly !''

All in all, the place deserves more custom then it gets and gets a big thumbs up from us.

Love these little gems all over Thailand...this one looks particulary nice. The carpentry work that has gone into these is excellent, truly beautiful. 500 baht is a bargain.

I spoke to the owner about this and so far he is relying on Facebook for custom. Not very good but its his choice.

By the way, there is a contact phone number :

    Well there lies the problem.
It is being done by someone who has no idea of cost control or accountancy.
The place will go downhill over the next few years because no provision has been made for maintenance and repairs.
Enjoy it now whilst it is still good

Yes, I have to admit that when you add up the vast amount of money thats gone into the place its difficult to see where the profit is ??

The owner did admit to being a bit stretched. He said that a few people had suggested adding a swimming pool !! This was beyond his budget and at the moment he is on hold. Been open for about a year now. As I see it what he needs is better publicity. Hopefully word of mouth will help.

To give you an idea of the time it took to put together ( 1 year ) the existing pond had to be drained and dried out before they could sink in the pile foundations on which to build the dining area.
