Same as, there's definitely one in the post when I'm able though. I hadn't heard of the Petchabun mountain roads, definitely put that on the to-do list for next time I'm in the vicinity, looks beautiful.

Nice post CM !
There is something very special about Phanom Rung - I rate it above Sukhothai and Anchor Wat
For me, I'd rate route 225 (junction just north of Bung Sampan > Chaiyuphum) as the most scenic road in Thailand - the best is in the Chaiyuphum province.Quote:

Another interesting road I discovered last week is route 304 linking Korat to Kabin Buri - bit like 80% of scenery of the two routes mentioned above.
Have to agree KC-- Korat to Kabin Buri is great on bike or car.
^ That's cutting through Khao Yai, right?
There's the 304 and the smaller 3077 (or something similar) which is great as well.
Nice thread CM. Been on those roads around Lom sak and Khao Kor , but unfortunately on 4 wheels. As you say , biker heaven...... providing you're riding solo without the Mrs in tow.:)
Thanks for sharing I have been to Phimai myself well worth a look.
Worth a look, and is a nice ride, but to be honest I find Ayutthaya and Sukhothai far better temple wise.
The Khmer temples look much better preserved than those in Cambodia.
Many of the statues remain as do most of the carvings.
There has been much less stealing.
Thank you for sharing these photos.
Nice phots c.m,had a few beers at the khru pom with me mate whilst our other halfs went to the temple across the road, Being cheapskates,we refused to pay the 100 bht entry fee when it"s only 20 bht for thais, so the money was well spent on beer.
The day I was there an elderly english man decided to do a 3 somersalt with a pike out of part of the temple, and broke his leg. Also keep going passed lomsak to Pis-look for more great two wheel roads some of the best I have ever been on anywhere and I have been riding for 41 years.Just watch out for the elephants and not the tame variety either
me and nedwalk visited phnom rung temple in early may and i must say it was an experince ill never forget, great pictures mate, brought back some great memories.
I went in for free as it was 6am and it doesn't open until 7:30.
Phanom Rung being a historical park and not a national park wouldn't accept my driver's license and Thai chat up lines and had to fork over 150b + 20b for the bike.
It was the same in Sukhothai Historical Park.
Khao Phra Wihan National Park in Sisaket was free, they just swapped my DL for a visitor's pass. Probably just happy at being able to let people in again.
very enjoyable adventure travel thread with nice photos. been to all the locals you mentioned in thread but would like doing it on a bike I cycle. something I know I'd enjoy doing and may accomplish some day. what size bike were you on CM? traveling companion or singular? gree no the way. Thanks for the thread.
I always prefer to travel alone. Not even in a group of riders. Much more freedom.Quote:

A tall road trail , tenere , bmw , or ulysses wouldbe the ticket.
A bit sad ,actually. You have done quite well to a point. You should have gone to Prasat Ta Muen Complex, as well as Soi1 Ban Kluat. Maybe even tried to find Prasat Kwai. There was a major highway , that ran from Angkor Wat, through to Prasat Ta Muen , onto Phanom Rung ,passing ancient kilns and iron pottery places, then finishing at the Prasat in Phi Mai. This area , of Southern Buriram was ruled by Cambodia, about 1.000 years ago. Totally Hindu. All of these Prasarts are Hindu. Following the collapse of the Hindu religion, Then Animism ,became the dominant belief system .As it is today ,somewhat contaminated by Buddhism
^ Had marked out a few more temple/ruins stops on the map and GPS but the desire to ride on was stronger I'm afraid.
^^ Good to hear you're enjoying the riding up in your new-ish home. :)
Bring on October and 6 months of arid-ness. :)
Skirting Khao Yai from the Pak Chong entrance round to Wang Nam Kiew - lean, green and mean...unless you do it at night in the 'winter' when it's just plain fucking scary. No street lights or puncture repair folk for miles.Quote:

Thx. Green on the way
With this glorious weather - Blue skies and sunshine. And the Bangkok floodomania, I'm fuking off for part two.
Jumping on the bike tomorrow and head back up around the NE.
No major plans, going to go up along the Mekhong by Mukdahan etc. Got some friends I'll be dropping in and staying with along the way, but it's an open map for an open period of time. Will see how it goes day by day.
If anyone around the area fancies going out getting bladdered one night, drop me a PM anytime over the next few days. :)
