    Smile Internet availability in Ubon

I am just wondering about the standard/speeds of internet available in Ubon. When I mention Ubon I really mean in the smaller centres. I am moving back to Ubon in December and would like to be able to connect to the net. I last lived here 5 years ago and had internet via gprs which was better than dial up but when you are used to adsl is a bit slow. What is available nowadays for the guys out in the sticks.

When I have been visiting over the past few years I have just gone to a mates house and used his internet or found a govt office which hasnt got their wireless router secured.

I will be living during the week in Ubon town but travelling back to the farm for the weekend. I understand good fast internet is available in Ubon.

    Thanks for any input

You'll have to check around where you live to see if they have ADSL there- I don't, but our local village does. If you are close to Khemarrat town you will probably have ADSL available. If not, it's either a choice of crappy mobile phone connections (CAT Telecom, a CDMA service, is best if you have a tower nearby). Failing that, it's IPStar satellite like I use, which is OK but expensive.

    Hey Sabang,
How does IPStar go nowadays. 5 years ago a couple of friends had it and it was terrible. Slow download speed and you never knew when you were going to have service. I used to use GPRS through AIS (12call) which like I said before was ok but when you are used to adsl its not really fast enough. There is adsl in and around Khemarat but may be too expensive to run to our house which is about 5 kms from the town centre.
