Did about the same here. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks for a good and eduational video.
Are those the actual bones they have in the bag, or some thing symbolising them ? I figured people were cremated so there wouldn't be much bone left.
Excuse my ignorance
Those were actual bones. Grandpa was cremated 3 years ago...of that I'm certain. 3 days after he succumbed to liver cancer at the age of 71, a group of about 200 people carted him down to the Temple to be cremated. With 8 monks chanting (or was it 9?) various family members and myself poured coconut oil him just prior to the cremation.
My "Thai/Isaan" was pretty poor when he was alive, but we enjoyed hanging out together shooting things. He made slingshots and we used to shoot together without speaking. He was alright in my book...made damn good slingshots, too!
RIP
"...life down here is just a strange illusion."
Nice vid mate, thanks for sharing
My missus mom and dad both died of liver cancer too
Is it the Lao Kao ?
I preferred your other video of the pricks on the highway.
I'm sure lao cao odesn't help, but its quite possible the liver cancer was directly related to this: CLICK HERE
Thx Skywalker. Gee, actual bones, how odd.
Not odd in a bad sense, just how different from farang practices.
Anyway, the Paris catacombs are full of bones too, so perhaps not so different.
Interesting link. Wonder if a worm medicine will kill off these parasites ?Originally Posted by skyywalker
I first came to Thailand in 1977. Then Songkran was a family clebration. Often the oldest daughter would have a bowl of water with a few flowers in it. She would sprinkle a little cold water from the bowl on you. Then a dab or two of power would be put on your face, often just with one or two fingers being dipped into the powder then placed on your cheek. Then she would give you a wai...and the ritual was done.
This was even done in Bangkok at the time...even by the bargirls on Patpong.
Believe me, there is a world of difference between having a good-looking young Thai girl sprinkling a little bit of cold water on your face and putting a bit of powder on your cheek than being sprayed by a pickup truck with a 500 gallon water tank mounted on it from a high pressure hose (ala Pattaya Songkran)
Contrast that with what occurs in Pattaya or even in Bangkok for Songkran today.
Not everything is "better" now 34 years later.
Just so you know.

I will stay away from Songkran.
I heard there is also some "free license" for thai men to go and grab the breasts of women, or so they think.
So better stay away from the modern version.
BigBaBoo's original version sounds much better !
