Thinking about a move to Nong Khai.

As the title suggests it's on the cards.
More convenient for visas and Laosy cos Papa is ill, as bloody usual.

    Ok, sound off.
What is a two bed house gonna cost to rent?
Where's a good place to be?
    Where are the whore houses?

    Etc etc etc.....?
Falling asleep and waking up is not the same as passing out and coming to.

I liked the place, cheap, laid back and not full of winging drunk farangs.
Great market, good food, cheap dark beer Lao.
Strange thing the Beer Lao had to be brought up from Udon Thani, no direct import allowed.

I was hoping for a few drunk farang to get drunk with, and maybe a few good bars, girls etc.

I live in a village in Rayong and there's uck all to do and miles to drive for visas and Tescos and bars etc.

Looking for a little less local non peasant type establishments.

Apparently, some of the bars have dived and the locals are calling the area 'Little Pattaya', so that should suit you. At the other end of town is a great little bar that has heap beer, good folks & stodge.

Two bed houses are from 5 - XXK depending on location style etc., just like any other small town in Thailand. As usual you have to drive around and look for them. One decent area about 5k from the center of town is Tipthani, lots of expats and handy. Several housing 'compounds' around. Best bet is to rent at a resort or similar for 5-600 a nigh, tfor a month or so and look around. One good one is near the train station, think its called Nong Khai resort but not sure.

Tesco here is orientated for the Lao cross border business but OK. Macro will open in a couple of months and a Big C is on the way.

Whore houses are basically Thai sing song places. Some of the bars have "take out" but .... haven't found anything special. Good place to meet and greet on the river is Beer Belly Billy's. As mentioned in Mammers post above.

Beer Lao is all imported through Bangkok - go figure. But you can buy an occasional case or two from border crossers. Lots of folks go back and forth (Thai) and will pick up whatever you need. For small compensation of course, gas money.

Hospitals OK, one expat style and one gov't, which is quite good. Dental care excellent. My dentist is solidly booked by Lao Hi-So.

    A variety of schools available.

An hour away from Udon which has all the crap you need lolol and an excellent tool place that would be outstanding in any country.

    anything else PM me

My Dad lives there full time... not far from the Bridge. Great quiet place, very friendly, wonderful for Laos as you say.. Cant tell you about whore houses, not my scene The Chinese market on the mekong is pretty good, BBQ fish is out of this world lol.. I recommend it.. no regrets here. TG
