    Rugby in Surin

    Hi

Does anybody know of a bar to watch the 6 Nations rugby in Surin ? I was going to Ubon to try and watch it, but got my dates all muddled up, need to be in Bkk on the 14th so i am thinking of stopping in Surin instead.

    Many thanks.

Why not ignore Surin and go all the way to Bangkok?
Then your choices to watch rugby will be numerous.
    Are you Irish?

Hello, its you again, i could do that but i can't be arsed with driving the whole way in one hit, done it enough times, so i thought i could spend another day here and leisurely drive to Surin watch the game have a few beers ,i am a sociable chap so like to watch the sport in a bar atmosphere, then drive on to Bkk, i will be there for the next game so as you say plenty of choice then, i do quite like the Robin Hood at the moment!!!

Half Irish but 100 % English ..another Mongrel..

Go to the Starbeam Cafe near the Majestic Apartments. Great food, great host and probably will be showing the game.

Short term or long term and cheap - you can still go up to the Majestic hotel and use the pool too - at least you could a couple of years ago. I will get the number of the Starbeam later tonight an post it.

Otherwise, try the Farang Connection next to the bus station.
The Majestic apartments are a great deal btw, well recommended.

Since the owner died the place has gown down the toilet. Thai run now and that explains it all.

It was never all that even when Marty was around and kicking. Bit of a local/regional myth. Just decent promotion, is all.

I never liked the place actually, although martin fixed me up with accomodation one night when we lobbed up unknowingly during the elephant round up. Only he could have managed that.

But FC has (or had) cable TV, and had a few sports fans there. Thing is, t'other place is owned by a sep- so if he takes umbrage at putting heathen rugby on his screen, then at least theres an alternative.

The other two boozers in town that I know of, are run by a skandi & a cantankerous kraut. I don't see much rugby joy there.

The Starbeam is run by Boston Mike. They have jam nights on Saturdays where farangs get together and play tunes and the food is great. He does Mexican, pizza, and other Western food. I had the English Breakfast and it was perfect....errr....how can anything from England be perfect?

His place looked like it was firebombed. The gate was crashed in and smoked up. Maybe a conflict with someone? Does anyone know??

^ Dunno, but it was known as the hardcore alkies hangout. Never been there actually.
You do mean the skandi joint opposite FC I assume, not Norbys (the krauts).
Norbys always pissing someone off, as he was when he had his place before in Nong Khai.

The Oasis was the Skandi joint opposite the FC - bikers and the like staggering around.

Trouble with sepo's when you watch the rugby is you always have that pointless discussion about which is the harder sport, between the harder game of rugby and the faggots game of padded American Football..we'll give it a try though..cheers for the pointers..

No HB's, just eggs, tomatoes, beans, bangers and toast.
