It is pronounced Surin, really not a lot to do there though, bout a 5 or 6 hour drive by car from Bangkok, buses bout 8 to 10 hours, maybe more if it does a lot of stops.

Typical Thai city out of Bangkok. If your looking for places to stay, things to do, rent a car or just a good English breakfast, then check this site out.

Got a place near there, and never had an injection yet. Lots to see and do.

Pattaya`s great for shagging and meeting people who think they know everything about Thailand, but have never been anywhere else. Of course there are people who do know what their talking about too

I'm sure you`ll have a great time even if you don't find what your looking for.

    Oh Gawd! Not another one!
Surin is pronounced sulin by Thai's because they cannot pronounce "R's", they come sounding like "L's"
There's nothing there mate, and elephant round-ups only happen at the elephant shows like at the Rose Garden.
And I'm sure if you tell her your fight number she'll be only to happy to meet you so you do not stry of to another TG, provided she isn't already booked. LOL

Plenty to do in Surin if you like the quiet life. Think there's a few bars in the city, but chances are you'll be staying out in the country.

    Anyway, here's a quick look https://teakdoor.com/travellers-tales...urin-trip.html

Sights in the area are generally old Khmer temples, the main ones being at Phnom Rung (Buriram Province) and Khow Pra Vihan (Sisaket Province). In addition, once a year on the third weekend in November, up to 300 elephants arrive in town from all over the North East for the three day Surin Elephant Roundup. (Your not likely to see anything else like it anywhere in Thailand, regardless of what people may say)

Surin is a decent size. You've got the Big C, Tesco Lotus, plus the night market. Accommodation is reasonable enough. Also you`ll be close the Cambodian border. If your feeling adventurous you could take a trip to Angkor. Theres also a national park near by. (never been yet though)

You can get flights from Bangkok to buriram (satuk) for about 2800bht. Flights are 3-4 times per week, and take an hour. Theres also the overnight train to Surin, costing around 1200bht, or the bus (take a good book).

The reason you may hear it pronounced "Sulin" is because the main language is either Khmer or Lao. Neither language has an "r" sounding letter, whereas people who come from central Thailand and only speak Thai, do pronounce their "Rs". Just like the UK, there are regional dialects.

If you end up staying in the villages, just go with flow and enjoy the experience.

There's at least one falang pub in Surin, called The Farang Connection if you're missing stodgy western food and drunken banter. You can google it.
