Bangkok to Khon Kaen-Buriram-Bangkok

I am planning to visit Khon Kaen on my next trip to LOS and wonder what is the best way to get to Khon Kaen from Bangkok and at the same time see something from the Country.

Is it better to go by Train? Or by Bus?

My intentions are to stay 2 nights in Khon Kaen and I hope to find a clean & reasonable Hotel room in the center of town, and go exploring during the days.

Then I plan to take a Bus to Buriram, stay another 2 nights and again, hope to find a clean & reasonable Hotel room there - before returning to Bangkok - by Train? or Bus?

Any suggestions and pointers from anybody would be most welcome.

1st class bus for sure..make sure you book though..in buriram, the PLOY , not bad and depends on your fitness you can walk there in about 5-10 mins or haggle a thieveing tuk tuk, its only round the corner for the bus depot

During the daylight hours, do it by train. You’ll have more room (and able to get up and walk around) than on a cramped bus and you’ll see different people coming and going during scheduled stops the train will make.

However, I don’t know when you’re visiting and the heavy rains might have disrupted the train schedule/line.

now this is good sound advice. can't say all readers have not been warned. should become second nature along with having "situational awareness".

1st class bus from morcheed in bangkok. approx 400 baht, fully reclining massage seat, a small meal and drink is inc in price. i took this bus last month, didnt have to book but i am told certain times of year you do. approx 6 hours.

yes VIP bus, spacious and comphy to KK from mo chit,, drop you off with 2 or 3 hotels and lots of restaurants within walkin distance and decent buses to BR from KK from same bus station. air con bus station.

I would recommend the bus as well. I took a first class bus from BKK to udon earlier this month, very comfortable.
The speeds were a bit high but other than that the driving seemed competent.

Came back from chang mai last week and only saw two buses rolled over laying in a ditch, thats about 10 this year that I have seen, never getting me on a Thai bus.

I want to thank all Posters for their replies - much appreciated.
I think I might opt for the Train first -and then use the Bus coming back, that way I can experience both available transportations available.
....only 2 weeks to go....

Had a good experience with the visit to Khon Kaen - thank's to the various suggestions by other Members.
Took the train from Bangkok during the day and enjoyed the scenic ride through the Counrtyside.
On Arrival, I was met by the lady from the Apartment Block where I had booked and the Room was reasonable and clean.
Had a good look around the Town and did several side-trips and finally took the Bus back to BKK.

All in all, a good trip and I will try to explore another part of the country on my next trip to LOS.
