Hi Jerry Kranuan is a about a 45 minute drive from Khon Kaen, figure on about 50 miles or so, depending on how far out in the middle of nowhere her folks live

Dont expect too much, Kranuan has dust, chickens, a few buffalo and not a lot else.

    Hi Jerry
I live in Kranuan and you do NOT see many chickens or buffalos in town
Its 60 km from KK and if Spin can do it in 45 minutes, I guess I have seen him. Some drives like mad around here

If you get bored, go to Howard and he'll fill you in about Kranuan or you'll meet some farangs here. Theres about 100 around.
I'll be there in a couple of weeks and maybe I'll meet you.
    Its a big town though.

    Hey Jerry
I do not know much about weddings, so..

I know people who rents a nice house in Kranuan for 7000 Baht. Or do you want to build your own ?

Oh Jesus, its gonna be a roller coaster for you. Left Monterey Ca. to move to a village in Buri Ram. I sure as hell could never do that. Best of luck guy.

Don't bring anything. Yourself and your wallet will be plenty.

If you must bring a gift, maybe make it yourself to show how much you love her daughter, spend a week painting a surrealist picture of you all together... thais love sentimental gifts over ones of monetary value, especially in Buriram. The mother would be so taken back by the time and effort you put into it it would be valued far more than anything they can show off as being expensive.

BahtSOLD.com | Thailand Classified Ads | Ads for 8th Oct 2009 | Page 1 have a semi-decent motorbike section to gauge prices etc.

Yes, but talk to your girlfriend, and let her do the shopping

No,not unless you call 7-11 a market. You can go to Howard in Howchow for a meal. You don't fancy thai food ?

You can drink all water in Kranuan. But the tap water is clorified. The water in all restaurants is safe, and so is the beer

I never had a problem, but to make sure go to the postoffice; maybe they are "too busy" to deliever the mail.

Maybe they did, but have a look at the postoffice.

    Have a look:
    Castle Howchow Beach Resort Hotel

By the way. There is a danish restaurant in Khao Suan Kwang, just up the road (42km)

Why don't you move to some place, you know, a little less 11th century?

Plenty of rural places in Thailand that also includes actual 'life'.

(Don't worry, she'll follow... Unless she has a 'sick' mother which is forcing ye to live in the blackhole of time/sanitation/logic of course)

    Just curios, where ?
'He going to meet the family' is all we know, and he is curios about the place. So was I the first time around.

My advice can only be to give it time. Do NOT buy land and house, until you know more about the place, and if you hit it of with the girlfriend.

Small world. I stayed at Howards place in Kranuan about a month ago. Can't say I was too impressed with the place. The armpit of Isaan. Kumpawapi up the road is a nice town.

I take that it is Kranuan, that does not impress you. I agree.
Can't say that I have ever been impressed much in Thailand.

But his girlfriends family lives in the Kranuan area. I'm not suggesting he should settle here. On the contrary. This is not for everybody, and taking up oilpainting sounds like a good idea.
By the way. The' How much do you drink in your village ?' thread should be a must read for newcommers.

PS Why is it that a huge procentage of farangs ignore your 'Hello' when you meet them outthere where the Crows makes a U-turn ? My guess is that they take you for being a big sucker, just like they are. Groucho comes to mind
