    Loei

This page on Loei is lacking in photos and information, so does anybody know anything about Loei?

The best hotel isn't on your list.

    Loei Orchid (เลย ออร์คิด)
    1/41 Sathon Chiang Khan Road,
    Tel. 0 4286 1886-7,
    54 rooms: 800-1,000 baht.

    http://www.loeiorchidhotel.com/

To find the Loei Orchid, just find your way to the centre of this bustling metropolis and you'll see the roundabout with a nice fountain on it. The driveway to the hotel is directly off this roundabout behind a nice open restaurant.

The hotel is painted in a rather fetching shade of pink and there is a nice little garden with seating which is a good place to get over your hangover in the morning with a minuscule cup of coffee together with snotty eggs on toast.

The rooms are pretty good for the money.

There seem to be two places worth visiting for food and nosh. One is the previously mentioned outdoor restaurant (the Sariya - สาริญา, pictured below) and the other is Baan Thai, which does a good range of Thai & western food, including pizzas.

Loei City is a hive of activity (if you're in a coma). Most people come here to see the surrounding areas of natural beauty and only use the city as a stepping stone.

I don't bother putting in links to thai sites, checking pages that are 2 year old 1/3rd of the domains had expired and were just adsense landing pages, a couple were hacked virus sites and the rest mostly had never been updated.

I have stayed at the Kings Hotel (close to the roundabout with fountain) and have paid 500 baht a night for a very nice room. Breakfast is not included but they do have a very nice selection of european lagers in the dining room. No pictures unfortunately but a modern clean hotel with lifts and very pleasant staff.

Loei also has a rather testing 9 hole military golf course which is located around 10 -15 kms north east of the town.

I haven't really explored the area but the drive from south to north is quite scenic especially around Phukradueng.
