LOEI, 7 June 2017 (NNT) – The northeastern province of Loei is prepared to organize the annual Phi Ta Khon Festival from June 24-26, with five other countries set to take part in the mask parade.

This year’s Phi Ta Khon Festival is scheduled to take place between June 24 and 26 on Kaew Asa Road in front of the Dan Sai District Office in Loei. The event is a collaboration of Loei province, Dan Sai district, Dan Sai Municipality, the Tourism Authority of Thailand Loei Office and the Provincial Office of Culture.

With an aim of preserving the beautiful local culture and tradition and promoting tourism of Loei, the festival will treat visitors to a colorful Phi Ta Khon or ghost mask procession. One of the highlights this year is special mask performances from five other countries, consisting of Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, India and South Korea.

Other activities include academic exhibitions, chanting of the 13-chapter Mahachat or Great Birth Sermon, sales of local products, a mask contest, the Phi Ta Khon Noi dancing competition and the procession of the holy image of Phra Vessantara to Wat Phon Chai.

The upcoming Phi Ta Khon Festival is expected to attract up to 50,000 tourists and generate no less than 100 million baht in revenue for Dan Sai district. The opening ceremony will be broadcast live by Radio Thailand Loei FM 95.25 MHz and many other local radio stations.
