    Moving To Uttaradit

After , nearly six years in Phuket , and having had enuff of traffic snarls , high prices and the growing discontent with Farang in general by the local population , im pulling up stumps and making the move to pastures (browner ?).

Ive had a few days up there , just off the train and a walk around , stayed at the Friday hotel above the super duper market , avoided the 24hr Coyote dance shows upstairs , but surely that wont last whilst in this tiny town , and am interested in a "heads up" on the area , any local members of this forum ?
Wheres good for a beer (if anywhere) and especially , wheres the good riding to be had around the province and the best back roads (tar) for a good blast on a sunday morning to blow away the cobwebs.
I will be doing a bit of business there , renting bikes , building a few and maybe a bit of helpfull mechanical repairing to the bigger bikes if any in the area !

So , any info at all would be greatly appreciated , being my first big move up country Im hoping it will be not as dead boring as ive been told

    cheers .

I lived there for a year
Not a bad town and the locals seemed friendly enough.

There is a "locals only" border crossing at Ban Kok with a market on the Thai side.
Think it was every saturday morning but check before you go

Know what you mean, personally I'm sick to death of Thailand, just awaiting one specific development in the near future, then I'm outa here.
Strange really, there is plenty to do,but if your sick to death of it ,it gets monotonous in double quick time.

^^Tourist Thailand sucks Ted , unless you have a business interest in it , to spend too many years amongst it can wear a person down as you can never be seen as a part of a community , walking atm comes to mind.

Saying that , I had a great time over songkran , went to a wedding in the moobaans north of Korat , spent a few wet days in Surin by the river , met some new faces and got pissed up with the locals..

Very refreshing to get away from Phuket , and nice to be looked at as a novelty farang ....

Your right Shagger, but even with a business your still a bit player, cannot get your hands dirty or the immigration police are onto you Just glad I did not buy a house on my arrival in Thailand ,that would have been a disaster big time, the thought of trying to sell it now would have driven me nuts

Should be able to get a good map in Phuket.

Closest border crossings for foreigners is Nan or Loei. Not far to Loei via the short cut. Narrow, windy roads but great scenery. Take plenty of fuel.

Chain driven. I've replaced one tensioner already and have a 'new' set of carbs on the way as the 23mpg was pissing me off a bit.

The #4 inlet valves are a bit rattly and never seem to want to adjust properly, so I'd like the help of someone who knows bikes to sort that out, but sadly it's full of Thais around here.

I'd also like someone to have a go at building a replacement rear shock for it. Up for that?
