Nong Khai - Laos

I`m going into Laos from Nong Khai on the 8th December with a couple of mates.I`ll be taking my Thai GF.
My mates usually go to Pattaya for their holidays from the UK and are worried that there isn`t much to do in Laos, re `Nightlife`.
We were wondering if any of you regulars had any suggestions/comments on Laos Nightlife,apart from the fact that there isn`t very much ?
The plan at the moment is a day and night in Vientiane,2 or 3 days in Vang Vieng and then onwards to Luang Prabang. Our timetable is very loose. We`ve all got two weeks to kill before my mates head down to Pattaya and I head down to Phuket.
If we get really bored,we`ll probably cut the Laos excursion short and fly upto Chiang Mai / Rai instead.
Any help given will be much appreciated.....

The nite life seems to be different .

They appear to go in for a disco type of establishment where you buy a dancing partner. I am sure there must be normal brothels but they don't jump out at you.

Engage the services of a taxi driver, they always know.

mainly just Vientienne, rest of the country is pretty quiet.

did i mention that i ran the Nong Khai to Vientienne marathon ? it was really good!

Actually still here. Trying to pack but firing off various emails and files before I go. There's no bar life like Pattaya or Bangkok in Vientiane, so don't go looking for it, it just doesn't exist. If you want a place to meet a few 'local' girls you could try Samlor on Settathilat Road opposite Mixay temple. It's a sports bar, has a pool table and there are a few girls hanging around there. Otherwise it's the discos. There's one down Luang Prabang road called The Marina. Quite popular. There's also others dotted around town but they're really pretty grim. If your mates want to take girls back to their rooms, then you'll have to be careful. A lot of guesthouses won't let you and many close at 23.30 and will only let you in if you've told them you'll be late back. Not sure about Vang Vieng, but it's more laid back and a place where most backpackers get zonked out for a few days on dope and magic mushrooms. Probably too stoned to shag anyone after that.

There are brothels there.

A tip to your door staff at the hotel is always a good way to open the door.

I thnk the gowing rate was 1000 for all night not sure though, My mate gave me the details a while back.

Vang vien has an ok nightlife but it's a bit busy there these days.
Don't go in the river at this time of year or you may end up in Vietnam.
