    Any Khon Kaen golfers about?

    Hi everyone.

I have recently moved semi permanently to my house in Chonabot which is about 55 kms from Khon Kaen.

By semi permanently I mean that every 3 months I will be returning to my condo in Jomtien for a couple of weeks, do my 90 day report at immigration and play some golf with my friends down there.

I know very little about Khon Kaen itself. Apart from a couple of trips to the large lake there and numerous shopping trips to Big C, Lotus, Home Pro etc I know nothing of any expat scene and would appreciate any members in the area advising me of any such that exists.

I would love to meet up with any BM's in the area and would particularly like a round of golf or two with any of you that play.

I was surprised yesterday on my way back from KK to see signs for the new Singha Park golf course and went to check it out.

To say I was gobsmacked is an understatement. This is a serious championship course on which a vast amount of money has obviously been invested by the Santiburi group. It compares very much with the Plantation course in Pattaya or Amata Springs in Chonburi, which host the ladies PGA Honda Classic and the Royal Trophy respectively.

I assume any local golfers already know of it but in case you don't click on this link to check it out.

"Santiburi Group Thailand Official Web Site."

I am seriously happy about this as I assumed that I would have to travel over 120kms to Ubonrat to play an 18 hole reasonable course.

Anyway I would appreciate hearing from anyone in the KK area, golfer or not as I would love to meet up with some of you for a beer or 2.

The course certainty is good news.
I have some land that I eventually will build on, just off the road to the dam, played at the dam course once, its certainly not a bad course, be nice to have alternative, though not sure where it is............
Others will be able to help you more with the night life, the little bit I saw was all around the Kosa hotel..........

Thank you for your response but I fear that as you are the only one to respond to my initial query out of 64 viewers I assume any BM's in the Khon Kaen region wish to keep its mysteries a secret,

Come on guys, give me some info please!

Won't be there until November but looking forward to playing Singha. Wonder how popular it will be, given that the prices are a lot more than the dam or Dankoon?

It has obviously been targeted at the richer Thais or expats and presumably travellers to Issan.

I aim to play it this week either alone or hopefully the course can pair me up.

I will report on it, but if you fancy a game in November by all means pm me.

The 5th Annual Isaan/Chiang Mai Golf Challenge Cup will be held in Khon Kaen on the last week of October. They will be using the three 18 hole courses in Khon Kaen, Santiburi, Dan Koon and Ubonrat. If interested, PM me for details.

Singa is the nicest course I have ever played but I kave only played in KK. 1700 baht for 18, 700 for a cart, 70 for an Asahi beer. Took me for over 3 thousand. Beautifull facility!! Kinda like the Thai wife, more pretty= more expensive! Not the most challenging because of lack of trees and secondary cuts are like the greens I'm used too. Army course is good, inexpensive, challenging and very informal. CHEAP BEER! They have Heiny's, Singha don't! Still working on their last holes, only have 13 or 14, holes will be completed sometime in ?????? We usually golf 2 to 3 times a week between army ubonrat and the dam. We are not that good, my handycap is a six-pak. We do have fun though. If you want to join up for a day or 2 PM me. Cheers, Terry

    Hi Markmark.

Where is your house in Chonnabot?

I will be in Chonnabot for a short while in December but will be spending Christmas and new year in Pattaya.

Would be great to meet for a beer. PM me when you are here and hopefully we can meet up.

Hi Racefan we bought 3 rai of rice field at Kud Lom village about 4km outside of Chonnabot . Started building in March, supposed to be finished by October but new date is December due to extra work and too much head scratching by the local workforce. Cant miss it as it has a big red tiled roof. I might post some photos sometime when I get the hang of it.
