    Phang Khon - Sakon Nakhon

To me this place seemed like the edge of the world, i have never been too a place as remote in Thailand.

After spending 14 hours on a bloody bus from Bangkok and another 40 minutes in a samlaw I had arrived. (Spin was right) I was looking for the pointy little hammer on the bus between Khon Kaen and Udon Thani too shatter the window and escape unfortunately Thai no have, it was painfull. (Expect another thread)

These are random pictures of the village and local temple and are as far as i can gather the first on the internet for what there worth.

I fully understand your bus nightmare been there myself never again, try renting a pick up next time makes the journey much more of a pleasant experience.

On arrival about 7pm i noticed that the village seemed to have an extremely loud tannoy system, i never gave it any thought other than it was the local radio station informing the locals.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

5 Large Singha. Saleep for me.

Seems a nice verdant area. I like life out in the sticks myself (with the necessary creature comforts though). Quite missing it, but i'll be back in Ubon mid September.
    Nice one.

Phang Khon is on hwy 22, half way between the towns of Sawang Daen Din and Sakon Nakhon. Sakon Nakhon is a province in Isaan just east of Udon Thani.

I know mate it was only an hour and a half on from Udon had to drop passengers off and get some food there, but after 11-12 hours on the bus, you do get alittle pissed off and it seemed like an eternity.

I will combine what was gonna be the bus route thread with a few pics on this thread later today for those that might be interested.

I'm trying to plan a ride down to see you guys in Ubon, but the entire route is as boring as hell. Straight roads and no hills.

    Mukdahan looks much nicer...

Straight roads are good as you can read the paper as you go (little hard with a bike but I am sure you will figure it out)

Would be good to have you hear Marmers.

    The Bus Journey.

Nursing a massive hangover we arrived at Mo Chit at around 6.30am.

2 tickets were bought to Sakon Nakhon for 488 baht each.

After a couple of coffee's to sort meself out we climbed aboard our airconditioned chariot.

The bus was OK not comfortable or un-comfortable, a little dated yes but OK.

Everytime in the past I have flown to Issan, this time was going to be different as I wanted too see the countryside in between.

We set off out of BKK armed with two drivers and a conductor, the route was basically.

    Saraburi

    Nakhon Ratchasima

    Khon Kaen

    Udon Thani

    Sakon Nakhon

These were the places I actually got off the bus to buy a couple of cans of beer and too stretch me legs for 20 or so minutes although we did stop at another 4 or 5 places briefly but the names escape me.

As for enjoying the countryside, hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

There really isnt much to see. Wasteland/Rice Paddy/Burnt Out Bus Or Car On Bricks/Rice Paddy/Buffalo/Wasteland etc etc..............

No music on the bus and everyone is asleep except me and the named driver.

Pretty boring really and as I have said previously I would NOT do it again, but hey I have done it and.............

Bought two tickets for the return Journey to BKK from Udon Thani with Thai Airways for 1550 baht each.

Price difference 1062 baht, well worth it!
