    Thumbs down Mukdahan

I am going to Mukdahan on 25/06, does anyone know a nice hotel at reasonable rate? are there some bars or café's or any other nightlife activities?

Mukdahan has several nice hotels at reasonable rates- the town has loads more hotel rooms than people to fill them.

I stayed at the Submukda Grand, which is on the main street going through town- very central, and good value at 400bht.
The best place in town is prolly the Ploy Palace- rooms there will set you back 1300-1500 bht, decent value for 5*.

Heres a link to a thread i did on Mukda-

    River View Hotel

Nice hotel, good rooms for under 1000.
Strangely enough though, there is no river view

I stayed there just a few days ago - it's not too bad, i'd give it 7 out of 10 based on the general standard of hotels in Issan which, let's face it - is pretty bad.

But yeah, the River View was okay, other than BBC World in black and white I can't think of anything that pissed me off, I quite liked the area, there's a nice restaurant on the river - ask the tuk tuk bloke.

    Hi Chris,

looking forward to read if you went to Ban Café and met Ralph yesterday or not. Are you visiting Mukdahan as a tourist for short time or longstaying?

It´s a nice little town but up in nowhere and too far from Ubon and airport in my taste. Builded a house opposite the swimmingpool last year but sold after only one nights sleeping, because I had nothing more to do after the construction was finished.

^ Were you the Swedish guy who was taken for a ride by his Thai gf?

We all heard a rumour to this effect, after you sold up...

Ralph at Ban Cafe, or Rolf at the coffee-shop?

Yes, correct. Ripped off - more or less. Or saved, depending what you mean.

^ From all accounts, you made the right move by selling up. Good for you - glad to see you've landed the right way up since then.

The Mukdahan lasses have a reputation for this sort of activity - travellers beware.

In fact she kept 3/10 of what she got for the house to a californian man. On the other hand we got a good price so in the end we talk about peanuts.

It´s ok - no problem but what I have heard she can´t stay in town after that. Don´t know and I don´t care. Life is going on and Samui is a much better place for me to stay anyhow.

The bad girls who do in their partners get a poor reputation amongst some of the older falang wives. They end up having no friends & move off again.

There were quite a few scams in that complex over the road from the swimming pool - you were not the only one... not by a long, long way.
