Udon To Laos In a Hurry?

    Dear all Udonites.

If I fly in to Udon Thani on the ealy flight from Bangkok, (it's meant to arrive in Udon at 8.05am) will I have time to get to the Thai embassy in Laos to apply for a visa the same morning?

What is the best way from the airport to the friendship bridge?

I don't reckon you can do it noodles, the bridge to the Thai consulate in Vientiane is 20 minutes, Udon Thani to friendship bridge about an hour, reckon you will be there at 12.01

Well, I am going to factor in an extra day incase I can't do it and end up having to stay in Laos for 2 nights, but I would rather get in and out in one night so I can take a night in Udon, maybe hook-up with some TDers there.

It's not going to be until September anyway but I will book my flights this week.

If you arrive in Udon at 8.05 I could get you to the bridge for 9.00.

Yep, can get mighty hot up there...taxi from the airport in Udon takes no time at all, about 50km's or so, try to get the visa forms ready for Laos from the consulate in Bkk, that'll save u a bit of time too.

Peice of piss noodles, absolute peice of piss. I mangaged it last month; same scare airways flight landed, then jumped in a private pick up job to Nong Khai - just be a bit quick on your feet at the border.

I was outside the embassy well before 11; got some tout to get my photos in front of the embassy's wall and picked up the application ticket after handing my passport in only to wait for the reciept.

Had a fair few cans of beer opposite the enterance and forgot to pick up my reciept so had to wait another hour drinking beer Lao to for my reciept at 1pm when the refugees from the day before returned.

It's actually more tiring flying to Udon as it's stop, start, stop, start involving all the different transports to get and cross over the bridge and onwards with no real rest intervals unless staying a few days in Vientiane. Regards to the OP you'll make it for sure if the flights on time.

    I'll bet on it

You will be Ok Noodun. I dropped my dopey neighbor at the train station about 9 am last week and he still made it.
So stay a nite in Udon and buy Marmers and I a beer.

As the Visas are free at the moment, Melvbot and I didn't bother waiting to get a receipt. No bother apart from the cock at the Embassy saying that we wouldn't get our visas if we did that again. Yeah, yeah..
