Duggie, Don't be shy, give us a clue about what you want, near nightlife or quiet, 200 Bt a night or 5,000?
There are plenty of good places to stay but depends on what your after.

I have only stayed at the Irish Clock once for 4 days.
Highly recommended accommodation , excellent food and drink.

though the street has now become the beer bar street which may be a problem for some.

I thought that the Charoen was good value. It has a pool and okay rooms. B/fast isn't great but the location is okay, in that you can either walk into town for a drink or head towards the area around the Hightech Night Plaza, where there are good bars and restaurants. There is also the Yellow Bird disco in the carpark.

The best place in Udon is The ban Chiang hotel, pricey but great rooms and facilities.

BB Resort is a good bet, not far from Nong Prajak Park, and a little further on to the shopping complex, and Soi Farang.
    Very nice swimming pool here.

Have you stayed there Udonite? the place is crap, old converted military style cabins, the swimming pool when we stayed there was dirty and had missing tiles.
When we checked in they wanted payment up front, before we had even stepped in the door.
You would certainly need a car to get around as no tuk tuks ever go there.

    Oh Dear!
My neice and nephew stayed there and enjoyed it, the kids enjoyed the pool. They live in Phuket, and were in Udon on a visit.
We would go there and drink by the pool. That was two years ago.
Perhaps the place has declined since then.
    I've seen worse.

Well. my stay was 3 yrs ago, normally we stayed in Thomas resort, which I have never had any sort of problem with but on that occasion TR was full, hence BB resort.
I mean you must have noticed the cabins were all Ex US military?
I have stayed in better short time hotels.

The Ban Chiang....Was a good place many years back imo, not had a room for a few years though, but i liked it back then, now i just go in and use the Toilets if i need to, The chareon is a good position but beware of the Rooms at the rear...only at chucking out time at the Yellow Bird Disco, plenty of noise, cars, motorbikes, shouting etc.. Ohhh and a few bitch fights can be had...so maybe not that bad.

    The Karin hotel .
Rooms 450 - 1200 baht , even the cheaper rooms are the best ive seen at that price.
A bout 8 mins to Robinsons 20b, buffet breakfast, quiet location , partner friendly, always a ride out front (Saamlaw , not the other kind) ... and two hot looking reception staff always make for a pleasant stay.
