Coming over to Ubol Rat Dam next week to put in a bathroom. Do I bring the faucets or buy there ? My thinking is they are $20 at home depot and easily fit in the luggage. God knows what kind of selection can be had in URD or KK and for what price ? What do you guys think ?

Odds are they will be different fittings.

But if you bring them then you can also bring or get rebuild parts, anything here is junk and will not last long and there is no rebuild parts here and everything is throw away,, which should be done as soon as leaving the shop where you have bought Made In Thailand junk.

I don't know what KK has to offer, but Udon has a Home Pro and a Global House, both of which sell decent stuff.

KK has Global House aswell (Gobon How).
Coming from Ubol Rat on road 2, take the 12 road to Nakorn Ratchasima/ Chum Phae about 10 km and go left on the airport road, then you see Global to your right, make a u-turn at the first lights, and you are there.
You can drive through the city aswell, and turn right at the airport road. Some time has traffic though

Global is good. There is also a Home Pro now on Highway 2 on the city side of Tesco-Lotus and also another reasonable hardware store just beyond Tesco. I think it is quite tempting to bring some taps with you providing the size is correct as good quality stuff in Thailand is expensive. Even dearer local ggods such as those made by Karat?? aren't of good quality. I bought a batch of very expensive taps that lasted less than 3 years

OK, house now has a bathroom. Went with the basic fixtures you see in most thai bathrooms from global in KK. Of course the thai residents in the house managed to break 4 fac-bua,s (hose/nozzle affaire) before I got them the rubber hose job instead of the shiny metal covered jobs they insisted on.
Workers did a great effort for the price paid so we,re happy.
Managed to meet some falang who reside in the area during the process who were the best sort and were very welcoming.

Actually their the same sized and manufacture you would find across the globe.(Most Cases).......
Names may differ such as a john ..commode..toilet and or even the manufactures name Toto but in Thailand their Cotto.....But best to buy in Thailand and hire a few local guys to work for you on this protect ,it will help you in the long run....If you need any help with this protect please feel free to contact me . Some serious advice if your really buying 20 dollar faucets Id advise giving up on the whole protect and wash in a bucket instead,twenty dollar faucets were a cost 30 years ago ....

If you bring them you will have a NPT if you buy then here they will have a machine thread that has to be bottomed out with an Oring sealwhich will not work, they wrap a dozen wraps of teflon tape that does not stand the pressure and will end up leaking,would be better off with a bucket and a well.

Since being here, I've had one tap burst at the metal seams, and about four bum guns give up the ghost. I've also had two tap fixtures burst at the wall fitting, one time causing minor flooding because we were out.

Basically, Thai plumbing fixtures are crappy, and Thai plumbing is too. But they both are cheap.

I have has any number of Valves and taps strart to droi pd leak or freeze up and will not turn, you can get no washers or other repair kits for them here and most you can't get apart to fix anyway , Thai builds cheap junk that is not supposed to last or be repaired, they make money selling replacements.
But the thing that pisses me off is the lack of the proper thread type or style.

There is always a choice of quality

if you buy the cheapest, then the quality will be crap. You can buy good quality at reasonable prices (like Cotto)
