I'm in Mukdahan now- a few expats here know Richard, and say he's still operating. Closed on Sundays though, and the opening hours are not what it says on the door- I went there 3 times, never found it open! Evenings safest bet.

Theres also a small aussie owned bar in Ubon now- N Joy. It's on the same road as the Ubon jail and Toh Sang hotel. Worth a look also- Louis is the owners falang husband. I quite enjoyed having a few beers there on a Sunday, when Wrong Way was closed.

    Still Open

I was on a three week vacation in Ubon and I was at the Wrong Way Cafe on 22 OCT 2008. Yes it is still open, I think the new operating hours are 1400 - 2400 hrs Monday - Saturday and closed on Sunday. If you happen to make it there, please tell Yu that D.C. says hello - thanks.

^ The other expat pub in Ubon is NJoy, it's no more than 2km from there on Palochai Road the same road as the Tohsang hotel and the Ubon jail- just keep going past the jail, it's about .5km on your right. It's owned by an Aussie guy, Louis, although he's got an English manager there now. Friendly place, though I don't know what they do for food.

Thanks sabang, we have got so much to do in town I doubt it wil actually happen but I need a plan just in case we do find 30 minutes to eat something.

I don't know any of the street names in ubon yet but i guess 500m past the jail on the right hand side should be easy to find. Cheers.

As I thought, we ended up grabbing a bite on the run that day.

Today is a different day and I am here on my pat malone and was really looking forward to some western grub and a cold one but alas I can confirm that they are indeed shut on Sunday. I forgot that today was Sunday

Just down the road about 50 metres on the same side is a nice and clean thai joint with a nice 'beer garden' with cold tiger

    This is the place.

and once again, just for DD here is the toilet at the wrong way cafe

I can highly recommend the wrong way cafe burger. Scrumptious. Richard the owner actually bakes his own bread on site in a massive brick over out the back.

Beers are cold and only cost 45 baht.

Went there last night. Small and cozy. Food is Thai only, I had the curry - it was average.
They have small Leos - only 40 baht. The owner was a little stand offish and then left to go and have a SSS and left the gf of the only other customer there in charge.
Too far away for me to go again when the wrong way cafe is around as it is much better.

^ Strange that- I found Louis pretty friendly actually, then again, I heard on the vine that he had hired an English manager. Maybe it was him you met?

There were a few more people around when I've been there, which is only three times.

That must be a large bottle, in a provincial town?

Louis was with Australian customs for quite a few years, and lived in a few different places. I think he was from Perth.
