Nasty fucking things. Ta-karp in Thai. Had heaps of them in my bungalow behind Lamai Beach on Koh Samui. Fortunately never got bitten but came very very close a couple of times.

I had one about that size (20 cm) in the garden a couple of years ago. I cut it into about ten sections with a pair of grass shears. Each segment continued to wiggle around for hours.

Nice photo, but this is the closest I want to be to it. Nasty looking fooks

I heard the darker they are the more poisonous they are and that the Thai's call them "motherfuckers" because they are so evil.

Nice one Rigger. Did the in-laws eat it? I had a few neighbors over last weekend hungrily eyeballing the beetles swarming around the porch light.

In the Chiang Mai floods two and a half years ago they all came out looking for somewhere dry when my house was surrounded. Scorpions, too. My sister-in-law went after them with a hoe. Seemed to do the trick.

    I mean one of these

    not one of these

Yea TaKap, when I was first in the hospital for a day I was on a ward, my neighbor in the next bed had his right hand looking like hell, and badly swollen, he was getting crabs out of his rice field and thought he saw one move in a hole, reached in and got a Takap who got him back, and he had been there 3 days when I moved up to a VIP room, so they are nothing to fuck with, but I though that when I saw how scared of them my dog is and she kills the shit out of snakes.

    Me too

A quick story to put my fears into perspective, as an 8 year old child on my second day in OZ (we had emigrated) Auntie calls out the post has arrived and would I please go and get it. No letter box in the front door and I was quite puzzled.

No you idiot its in the box thats on the stick at the front of the drive.

Anyway, sticks me hand in the box and retrieves the letters along with what I can only describe as the biggest ever Huntsman spider. No word of a lie it was bigger than me fist and running up me arm. Freaked totally.

Large insects especially cockroaches make me cringe major and get the size nine flip-flop.

    As for eating them, na.

They aren't meant to kill you but I'm told there is nothing they can do for the pain even decent pain killers can't stop it.

They say they wont kill a healthy person but can kill babys and the old and I guess one that size would pump twice to three time the normal load of venom. I have a mate that woke up one night and felt some thing on him and flicked it off, then him and his wife searched and couldnt find anything and guessed he was dreaming and went back to bed untill the baby kept crying. Turn on the light and the baby had TaKap crawling over it.
Mind you they do live like isan village people in a Thai style house with holes every where

That's absolutly terrifying - what did you do with the one you caught? I presume you found it in that bottle; I bet no ones got the balls to catch one?

Just as I went to catch it the phone rang and when I came out it was in the bottle. I was going to put it in Lao cow but some how it ended up on the ground in the sun, stunk really bad and the ants ate it
