Has anyone been to Ban Dung in Udon Thani ?
What should I expect ?

Ah, the temptation but I resist.

Sleepy country hamlet in the far NE corner of Udon.
I've driven through it, perfectly forgettable.
dunno bout that, it does have some nice ladyboys
Thanks for your replies, I might be better looking for a new G/F.
^^^^Tetters: amazing where you get all this stuff from...but keep it coming as it makes threads interesting to say the least...
I've lived there 3 months when I had a girlfriend from this village, in Tumbon Srisutho to be exact. But it was more than 12 years ago.
Don't expect much of there, the small town is basically a road with houses on both sides, some basic isaan restaurants, a Bank a market. The typical Nakhon nowhere.
Take some books with you if you go there, if you don't like to read they have plenty of beer and lao khao.
It's still a pretty small place but it's more than just a road now.
I was there a month ago for a few days visiting relatives and the locals are really good up there. Never let me put my hand in my pocket when we visit.
If you want to do it real Thai style then Ban Dung has it. Good sized rats to go shooting with muskets, prawn fishing, fishing.
I enjoy it up there but don't expect any luxuries or western entertainment.
When you go, expect a visit to Kam Chanot which is a few Km away and is a very sacred heavily wooded patch of land in the middle of swampland which is "apparently" full of ghosts. The family WILL take you there for a blessing.
There is farang style pub tho', can't remember the name but had a few beers on a bike trip thru there.
ban dung udon province is a really chilled out place a lot well a little as happened over the last 9 years since ive been going up there to the wifes familey.s home
there was only one bar there in 2000 but at the moment there is dave.s place upto u bar a few clicks out of town past the salt flats and eddies bar in town i am not sure if dean.s bar just on from eddies is still open but it should be he and eddies bar both have pool tables
five bells bar back towards udon was closed lang the wife of dean goodchild who passed away did plan to reopen and i hope she does to anybody that reads this and was a friend of deans i would hope we can all meet up again at the five bells i miss dean he was a good egg
The Girls aint too good looking in Bang Dung mate
Not to bad,but as previous posters have said, dont expect any creatue comforts, and just go with the flow.personally I love the laid back way of life that can be found in Issan but it is not everybodys cup of tea.when at home in Thailand we live in Nong Mek,not far from Ban Chiang, and it's all pretty much the same here, just good old rural Thailand
I usually make a stop in Ban Dung when going from Udon Thani to the old lady`s house.
I have walked around the town several times just to take in the "sights".
But to be frank, I have seldomly seen a town more boring and deprived of any sort of charm. Dusty, dirty, worn down and totally unappealing. Town folks are nice enough though.
If I should chose between going to work or staying at Ban Dung I would rather work overtime.
YMMV.
^ Sounds like the typical Isaan small town.
Its a nice quiet little friendly place with some helpfull people,,not too much to do,, but well laid back. My wife comes from Ban Pak an even more remote villiage about 15 mins drive North towards Phon Phisai , so we use Ban Dung for day to day shopping ,, but Udon for bigger shopping. Also has some nice cheap little resorts to stay in ,, Llallawedii resort about 5 mins drive outside ,, cheap and clean . has aircon and fridge for your water.
