    Sounds about right.
My wife and I whipped a wedding party together in about four days, in Vientiene, Laos several years ago. One hundred fifty people showed up to the Asian Pavillion Hotel and their contributions in the big heart shaped drop box (custom there) paid for the food and non-alcohol drinks.
    Very cheap.

In contrast, my daughter was married in Japan, 2006. The cost of renting her wedding dress for a few hours was more than my entire wedding.

The big question for your friend will be booze. They'll drink as long as the taps are open. I advise him to set a monetary limit and when that's met, it's pay-as-you go.

    And go they will.

100K for 400 people is not that much for a wedding.

I will worry more at the monthly amount he'll have to give to the family, sick buffaloes etc in the future. Anyway, good luck to him.
