I recon i have traversed near on every fookin Back road, obscure Buddhist Temple, town, Province, river and market all over Issan.

When the cool season hits it's a god dam beautiful part of the world with a heap to see.

Trouble is the cool season ain't quite long enough and once the heat sets in it's hard work.

That said, it's miles ahead of that shit hole the Sausage Myster hangs out in.

Issan in Nov, Dec, Jan, and early Feb is certainly a very nice area.

I'll be back up next year, time to go South now.

Well said Terry! Some of the posters on this thread have no class or worldly knowledge at all. Maybe it is because they have not taken the time or effort to travel around Thailand like you have.

The trouble with half these fukers is they get stuck in one area, maybe do a little trip around Thailand and then think they can give an informed opinion on certain areas.

Thailand is truly a stunning country to tour especially Issan and the far North.

The road running along the Mekong and the scenery up there is brilliant.

Fuking Gent ain't been out of Pattaya.

Agree Terry. I have run the road along the Mekong a few times on my motorcy and enjoyed the scenery very much. I still have a lot more of Thailand to explore before they take me to the temple to be cooked.

I am going to Bueng Kan in a few weeks time. I have seen the Mekong between Nong Khai and Chiang Khan and I like it. I am easily pleased.

    Funny ya say that,

Every time I do road trips I'm mainly away from the main roads and end up in some tiny little town in the middle of no where.

My aim is to explore these little places and prod around the Joint. Lots of Gems around.

Near on every-time I'm in these places I'll see a lone Farang pop up.

The White Devil sure gets around.

Actually, before I read your last post...being a good chap and all.

So, could you post up some pictures of your favorite places in Issan the MSM says it likes?

A few weeks ago we Started in Ubon Ratchatani and finished in Phitsanulok 10 days later.

For the first time we went North on the river road up from Chiang Khan.

What an absolute awesome fuking drive, I shit you not, it's a mini Mae Hong Son loop.

One could Fart across the river and float into Lao. The Mountain scenery on that road is beautiful.

Getting a bit dry up there now, Dec-Jan would be the go.

They are still building the road by the way.

To be honest with you CS I'd rather be living somewhere else. it gets a little boring looking and listening about rice paddies, Its one of the reasons I'm wishing to escape village life and live with the rice paddies.

    Here's what CNN said.

    Isaan, Thailand

Chiang Mai? Bangkok? Phuket? Been there, done that.

Those looking for a piece of Thailand that's still largely unexplored by the international market should head for the northeast region, referred to as Isaan.

This vast section of Thailand is equipped with excellent infrastructure that includes several domestic airports and a range of upmarket hotels.

You know that sticky rice and papaya salad that's all the rage in trendy New York restaurants? Here's where it comes from. Along with plenty of other fantastic dishes that are among the country's best -- provided you can handle a bit of spice.

It's impossible to see it all in one visit so you'll have to pick and choose.

There are also ancient Khmer ruins outside Buriram, mountainous national parks in Loei and Bronze Age artifacts in the UNESCO-listed Ban Chiang Archeological Site.

And that's just scratching the surface. You'll just need to come back for more.

Summary: look at fields, eat food, walk around old buildings, then go shopping in Bangkok?

To be fair, I love doing the ride along the 24 and doing all the Khmer temples. Then Ubon and up along the Mekhong, then down the central corridor and doing the national park runs through Central Thailand, cut a left to me mate's place near Roi Et, stop at the main Bkk mistress's place at Phi Mai, then home.

Brilliant stuff. But to list it as one of the top 17... why 17... was it 17th? of places to visit in the World is simply ludicrous.
