Stopping for 3 weeks in my new bungalow in Maha Sarakham.
looking forward to my visit. Was there last year but it was not quite finished.
If anyone knows of anything interesting in that area, let me know.

You will need plenty of this.
All well and good but if you hail fromWolverhampton and are not a Thai national it isn't ''your '' bungalow. It belongs to whoever or whatever your partner is.
Check out the land and condo and house ownership rules etc that are in place here for foreigners.
This aint the UK mate you have no rights like the rest of us!!!
Good luck and safe travels Dapper, you sound very excited.
When do you plan to make the life change on full-time basis ?
How large is your new family ?
If you come from Wolverhampton a trip to Smethwick is an adrenaline rush.Originally Posted by PeeCoffee

good lunch dapper and enjoy...
Good enough motorbiking roads around there, cruise over to Roi Et, around the lake there is okay for food and drink.
Head to the south of Isaan for Khmer temples, over and up along for the mekhong, west for the mountains of central Thailand. Kalasin has Dinosaur stuff. there's a nice pool half way to Roi Et, for about 50 baht a day, food and drinks and different pools etc. The uni has sports grounds for tennis and badminton.
I hope you've told your girlfriend the news, you know rather than just appearing out of the blue, gives her a chance to tidy up.
Judging from the picture you're gonna get wet. Brought some plastic sheeting with you? The rain stop at the end of November.

Hi all, thanks for all the messages,
Just for your information, I met my wife in England, she worked in a Thai restaurant over here. We have lived together in England for the last 10 years. We got married 3 years ago.
We both work in England and my wife has became a British Citizen and holds a British passport. We decided to build a house in the village where she was born so we could retire there.
We built the house together, sharing the cost. I know all about not owning the land and loosing everything if we split up. I was divorced over here in England from my first wife, I can assure you I lost a lot more than I could this time.
We are back in England now, I really enjoyed my time in our house, looking forward to retirement now.
Can`t remember how to change my profile photo, will update if someone can let me know how to change it.
Positive thinking...good on you...would be nice if you post your pics on here...
Thanx Neverna,
Done that now..
sorry to be a pain, but how do you add photos into a post.
saw a link to this but cannot find it now.
You will need to resize it first to under 120 or 150 pixels
Glad to hear all went well. Keep posting and we look forward to the photos of the house and of the regulatory wife photos .Originally Posted by Dapperdan

Now, I'm going to get booed off stage for this comment but ...
'We decided to build a house in the village where she was born so we could retire there.'
Which, in reality would more honestly be written as ... We decided to build a house in the village where she was born so we she could retire there.
Common trap. Work in the west till the coin is amassed. Convince the husband to leave behind his heritage on the promise that life will be cheaper and easier in 'her village'.
Husband is polite and agrees, but within a month, is having second thoughts.
The relative visits happen more often and the lady who once gave him her undivided attention now turns a lot of that attention to her extended family and you get slowly forgotten.
You don't speak Thai, the Village life, while simple, is barren for a non-speaking native.
The dream turns into, over many months, maybe a year or two, into a nightmare.
At first you deny it, to proud to think it can't happen to me ... but, like a slowly sinking into the quicksand, the reality of your situation sinks in.
Doesn't happen to everyone ... but to some, maybe many.
Just a heads up.
As always ... IMHO.
.
^ I bet you're great fun down the boozer
Boo, nah just joking. Sounds about right
